So a friend of mine phoned Auto & General on their 0860 number to cancel his insurance.
Now, he was aware that if he phoned from a Telkom line he would be charged a "sharecall" rate.
If he phoned from a Cellphone he would be charged the "full" rate.
So he phoned with his cellphone thinking that he would be charged the "66c" rate.
Instead his R25 lasted about 10 minutes, then he was promptly cut off.
He recharged again with R25 and this time he completed his call, before being cut off.
He checked his airtime and noticed that the airtime didn't correspond with the duration time on the phone.
We asked the sales lady at the Cell C store and she claims that all networks charge more than their standard rate to 0860 numbers.
She couldn't tell me what the rates were.
So i decided to test this myself.
I phoned Auto & General for 10 seconds. I checked my airtime and i was charged R2.50.
So be careful phoning a 0860 number, you will be charged more than 66c per minute from your cellphone.
