Cell C Responds - 66c/minute

Was just thinking last night how things have changed with the introduction of this R0.66 rate.

Can still remember back in the early nineties when I bought my first mobile phone. Cost for calls were so high that one avoided making calls and rather waited until such time as you could use a landline. Always hoped that mobile call charges will 'one day' go down to match that of landline calls.

Well it took close on 20 years but we are so to say there. Think a normal landline call nowadays is around R0.50 odd so not much difference between the two now.

Think the next step would to introduce on-net call incentives with the 66c that works automatically. Something to compete with Vodacom's power hour.

For instance get rid of Supacharge's short duration and allow the airtime to be stacked.
Then make it so that if you talk more than 5 minutes CellC to CellC, you start using the SUPACHARGE airtime.

What's better? Bonus airtime that only lasts 2-7 days or bonus airtime that doesn't really expire, that removes the need to carry a stopwatch or to urgently end a call. This way you could slowly, but sure safe up airtime for those longer duration calls.

Make it simple, R15 gives you R15 bonus CellC to CellC "Backup" airtime.

Well I hope these vouchers will work with the new 66c price plan....

I tell you how it works. Every one has T&C's. Cell C's seem clear, straight forward and honest. Vodacom/Mtn seem like gimmicks with ridiculous opt-in's which make you feel your about to be fleeced. Cell c is building building trust while Vodacom/Mtn reminds me more of a dodgy vacuum cleaner salesman knocking on your door on a Sunday morning trying to sell you a lemon.

it hasn't happened yet but any day I'm expecting a promo like
" 10gb for R10 to use in 10min while standing on one leg & only if you opt-in using *111# "
That's Vodacom/Mtn style of T&C. They making us pay them for substandard service for grossly over priced products which they then makes us , their customer jump through hoops to try get the full value of!
case in point. Vodacom's gives us a 1gig birthday "gift" then conveniently has a network meltdown.

aaah
remember vodacon's good old "gift" promo

that was a laugh - although not as hilarious as their 1GB birthday abortion last weekend

I have noticed the option is already available under the USSD *147# only available on the 1st June 2014, cannot wait! Already told mom to start using CELL C where she is staying due to the excellent coverage!

Changed this morning. Welcome to the cheapest rate in SA.

Thank you Cell C!

Cheapest rate in SA with no one net bonues and R2 per mb OOB.... Not a win if you think of it.

Works for me. I've loaded the 3GB/365 days data bundle on my phone, my average calls are 3 minutes and I use Skype to the one person I talk to for more than an hour.
My supercharge bonuses were going to waste, it was of no value to me.

P.S. The OOB on this tariff is R2/MB, so rather buy bundles or the 3GB/365 day voucher for R299.

Just noticed the OOB data rate is R2!

AFAIK, this would be the only Cell C tariff to apply R2 for OOB data. What are they thinking? Are they hoping people won't notice?

It's certainly not been highlighted in any of the news stories about the introduction of 66c.

Anyone know if you loose airtime or data when switching?

You will only forfeit supacharge bonuses and then supacharge will be disable for future recharges. So anything else will not be effected by the change. So airtime and data bundles will still be there but if you have supacharge data that will fall away when you change over.

Yeah they are doing all this extra stuff like R2 per mb oob and diabling supacharge to offer the 66c rate. I guess they will be losing too much money if they had enabled all the extra's and now they are hoping people will still make on net calls @66c per minute and use data oob to subsidize the low rate

This tariff is for the prepaid market, so I assume the average South African is using a normal cellphone instead of a smartphone. So I doubt they will go OOB.
I also assume that if you are smart enough to own a smartphone, then you are smart enough to buy a bundle. (These are my assumptions):D

You don't lose airtime or data bundle when you switch to the new tariff, but you do lose your supercharge bonus.

Cavedog: I don't mind forfeiting Supacharge (it doesn't work for everyone, so having a choice is good).

But R2 per MB OOB is so out of the norm for Cell C it makes a good offer somehow stink (and I am a otherwise happy CC customer)

Madhawk: Yes of course I buy bundles, usually the 50Mb, and if Cell C's notification of end of bundle worked for me, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

However not only do I not get an SMS that my bundle is almost finished, it's the same story with airtime, I'm either talking and suddenly get cut-off without warning, or SMS refuse to send and my phone (Note 3) is unable to tell me that it's because I don't have airtime. (some people think you are hanging up on them....)

In that case, I would recommend buying the 3GB/365 Day voucher from a Cell C store for R299.
I know it's an expensive purchase outright, but in the long run you will save and you will have a whole year to use it.

I have never gotten an SMS to let me know that my airtime is running low.
I just dial *101# and keep an eye on my airtime after each call.
