Cell C should follow Capitec’s example

I bank with Capitec and have a contract with RBM (Cell C). I'd be really happy if my mobile experience was anything close to the service I get from Capitec.

There is already a cellular product for blacklisted people, it's called prepaid. Been around for years.

That is exactly what I thought.

AFAIK, Capitec does not have business accounts and really has a very limited offering which obviously suits a large number of people.
But is the low demand population where the growth is?
Didn't Virgin try to change the rules in the way they sold packages without phones, and where are they today?
What other ways are there to change rules? Better quality is not a rule and we expect reasonable quality. What is left other than coverage and price? Which one of these can be changed more easily?

Fully agree.

I don't get this article at all(the blacklisting people.. uh no, who will give you services where you have a history of defaulting? that does not making business sense and there is prepaid which gives no risk).

The only 'Rule' in telecoms that none of the main operators are willing to break is the voice profits they make each yr and dropping it drastically. I know Cell-C might have one of the most modern networks in parts(8ta likely has the most advance/least costly) but really? will they cut the hand that feeds them? Assuming they have a state of the art converged network with voip etc will they risk it in the drastic price needed with voda/mtn?

Other than price of voice, data is kinda normalising so uhm.. *lost* Interesting they mention banking sector tho, i think an account linked to your bank provider is a holy alliance worth a LOT. 1. bank enjoys QoS for their networked services, 2. Operator enjoys bankability of clients, services, 3, How many un banked people are out there again??

If I had to change the telecoms and banking sector in a sweep without cost cutting my bread and butter too much, i would go for that.. value added service with a bank + cell operator. Imagine u get x airtime, x data, banking service at a touch of a finger on screen, alerts, value added services to be sold(insurance, loans, ..) all in a single product? (yes i know mobile banking craze etc but uhm.. 3rd party vs integration)

Free Banking, Free Phone, Free Airtime bundles on let say a R 49 postpaid Topup kind package with R 90 airtime ..... but it will be very interesting to watch Cell C under AKC Snr - as he can definitely change the rules and the local market

Exactly. And on a different topic, why no pre-paid ADSL access?I mean Axxess offers pre-paid data vouchers and the only barrier being the actual ADSL line from Telkom.Just a thought.

eish jah ne if our economy was huge n daznt cater for conglomerates only ,we shud be paying next to nuting for our telecomunicatn nidz but nw because we have no open economy n telco sector thnx to ICASA ,I have no hope in hell to c any change in my lyftym. Dismantle telkom bcos evry one nids it n it is a monopoly causd by history and being advantagd by havin by far the largest network in the country.

ADSL is prepaid in a sense. You pay for your ADSL line rental in advance each month, not in arrears.

Capitec do have Business Accounts http://www.capitecbank.co.za/business-services

I hope that AKC's strategy is low cost, high volume data and restructuring the network, billing, etc to work for this. If he relaxes the blacklisting rules a bit I think they could get a huge volume of new customers, they just need to be clever about it - maybe a more intelligent vetting procedure (look at why and how the blacklisting occurred for one) and maybe only stick to lower end smartphones.

Eh,Thanks for that insight,I meant in the true sense of pre-paid i.e.no credit checks or "onerous" application forms...cash upfront, no questions asked.
