Cell C to launch Wi-Fi calling soon

Cell C is pioneering the move by operators (certainly in other countries) to embrace Wi-Fi rather than trying to fight it. They see the exponential growth in Wi-Fi and are taking the first steps towards integration. It is not easy for an operator to create a seamless user experience, so I am sure this is just the first step of many.

Kudos to Cell C

This is great, I can't wait for MTN to copy them and implement it.

Wonder if they will mark wifi calls as free or take it away from your bundle. The guys that don't understand what this means, it means you do wifi calls on your existing cell number. This is heaps better than Whatsapp or SkypeOut.

As I discern. You are charged for your calls over your own connection. With WhatsApp it only consumes your data.

and then - only speculating here - Cell c is bargaining on the wifi dropping, and the call witching over to roaming network?

Roaming -shark-awaits.

or is this rather a vodacom strategy? :P

Who makes the profit when roaming? I thought it was the roaming partner.

With this the other party(who you are calling) doesn't need Whatsapp or a decent data connection and it doesn't use their data.Big difference in solutions this should be much more reliable, this will be useful to people who maybe just have poor network at their house due to location.

If it charges you local rates while roaming internationally it'll be a game changer for people that travel a lot!
