Cell C trying to fool broadband consumers?

You dont need a triband. All you need is a dual band. Tri band is for clients that wants to roam in countries like the USA etc.

AFAIK tri-band phones are the only phones that support the 1.9GHz frequency for GSM whereas dual-band phones only support 900MHz and 1800MHz.

Maybe I'm wrong?

So Cell C will most likely move voice over to 1800 band. Triband includes 1900 for USA. Sorry, I got confused between he two.

AFAIK Cell C has access to 1.9GHz and not 1.8GHz but there is no Cell C rep to confirm.

My bad must be my socks that I'm smoking but I still don't think Cell C can pull this off.

Somthing interesting from that doc is

As we expand our network to under-serviced and rural coverage areas, we will
use the traditional GSM 900 frequency, new extended GSM frequencies and
other radio frequencies that are better suited to provide wide area coverage.

Does Cell C now have 1.8GHz coverage in rural areas to service its prepaid customers when their 4G network gobbles up the 900MHz frequency or will rural areas stay on 900MHz?

Time will tell I guess. I do think this article made the Cell C look like a bit of a arse though. If you going to make a statement like "it is a fact we gonna be the first with 21mbps" then you better be damn sure you are just about ready to switch on your first enabled BTS or know for a fact that your competitors are still years away from doing the same, and not still having to finalize your vendor selection. bleh!

I know you are joking but the country bumpkins still need 2G and I'm sure they also need broadband.

Cell C does not need help in the looking like an arse department (it is something that comes naturally to Cell C).

May be you are not using the NEWEST TECHNOLOGY CELL C HAS

I don't really care if Cell C use 4G or 3G, I'm paying R289.00 per Gig on MTN and I think it's a rip off. Vodacom charge exactly the same amount for a Gig (Coincidence? or Price fixing; you be the judge) and if I could find an operator that had decent rural coverage for less than that I would change in a shot.
