Cell C users still suffering from poor network performance

Cell C customers have once again contacted MyBroadband to report poor network performance and connectivity issues.

The latest complaint was a Cell C user who stated that their fixed-LTE service in Kimberly has not been working since Saturday, while their mobile Cell C SIM does not even allow them to open websites when used in a device in the Randburg area today.

Well, I have been offline in total, both voice and data from Friday evening to Sunday. I eventually took up a VC contract and tossed away my Cell C sim. Earlier I also experienced a lot of downtime on data on various days. Cell C is okay if you want a sim card to play with, but if you need an actual phone rather stay away from them.

Why? Just use the other sim. Dude is complaining about mobile data. Just use Rain...
If people did not complain then there would never be any progress. Rain has been **** for me personally. I ordered a sim card and they got the sim details mixed up with another person, so my details were activated on their sim and theirs on mine. After a week of chatting to their live chat, I just gave up and cancelled

Very strange. I ordered two sim cards on black friday and received it the following monday. No problems.

Yeah I also received my sim very early, 1 working day but the service was horrible for me. They provide 1 week free uncapped to test out their service which is why I ordered a sim but it's all worthless if I couldn't even get the sim activated with the correct details to use it. I guess people will always have both good and bad experiences with companies.

Cell C has been rubbish in my area since their claim that the down time was caused by load shedding.

This is typical of Cell C in general, terrible network overall.

The problems with throughput on Cell C's LTE-A fixed wireless network predate the load shedding issues by months. You only have to take a look at this forum to see that people have been complaining about throughput and random disconnections for well over a year already.

The core network is falling apart. Long pings and packet loss has been reported in the issues thread for the past year. It's just a convenience to now blame it on load shedding.

A couple of years ago I got an iPad Mini on a 24 month contract with Cell C, which included 500MB data each month. At the end of the 24 months I think I did not even use 50MB in total for the entire period. Their network was (is) completely useless. You could not do anything on the iPad when connected to the cellular network, so it was connected to the home Wi-Fi most of the time. I logged a call with Cell C at the time, a technician came out to assess the extent of my problem. He stopped at our house to do some signal strength tests and he tried to call me on my phone, but the Cell C signal was so terrible, he could not even place a call.

They did their tests, agreed that the signal is atrocious, and that was the last I ever heard from them. Even if Cell C offer me free uncapped data, I would not take them up on it. The frustrations that will follow just isn't worth it.

Always a good idea to check coverage before getting any SIM card.
Not sure it's Cell-C's fault if you failed to do your homework.

I checked for me:
Neotel, RAIN: work:no, home:no
Telkom: work:no, home:yes
Cell-C, MTN, Voda: work:yes, home:yes

I have a dual SIM, MTN 1c/sec for calls + Cell-C for data.
Cell-C works well and saved me money with the Cell-C 200GB/365.

I actually just wanted the iPad Mini, because on that contract it actually worked out cheaper than to buy it outright. The Cell C data is wasn't really interested in, it just happened to be a Cell C contract. I am just stating the facts regarding the poor signal and non-ability to use the data that came with the contract. Besides, according to their website I do reside in an area where i was supposed to have excellent coverage. Also, although they did make an effort to come out to assess the reception problem, nothing was done about it, and even though
I followed up regularly, they just always responded that "They are still investigating...". Every company or service provider can make mistakes or have shortcomings, but how they handle and address concerns raised will determine if I make use of a company again.

No connection and dropped call experienced many time a day in Blairgowrie for more than a year. Cell C ignores

Not a network expert at all, but their unstable network with often ridiculous latencies suggest very much that you are correct.

How do you check coverage without a sim? The only way to see if you have good reception is to try and use it.
