Cell C Wi-Fi calling launch window

Funny how the others still havent implemented this..

And then the Cell C issues will start rolling in

It is not as profitable as screwing the customer for every minute. CellC is just realising it is inevitable and they might as well be the first.

Mmmmmm that is not how I understand it. If anything, it might be more profitable for them. From what I have read, the way the operators implement this is that if you make a phone call, it will still be deducted from your monthly minutes as if you are making a normal call over their own network, even though lets say it goes via your own wi-fi connection at home. If you dont have any more minutes left, you will be billed for it as per normal. So now, they are basically expanding your coverage by using your existing wi-fi network without having to roll our more base stations at their own cost.

Even so, it will be a great thing if you have a wi-fi connection at home but crappy signal from your mobile provider.

True, but at least they offer you an innovative service. It will certainly save you money when roaming internationally. Basically, if the mobile providers do not start to offer value on newer technology, people will just start bypassing them. Very soon it might be entirely possible to take the sim out of your phone and only use VOIP over wifi. If you work in an area with good wifi and have it at home as well, you only need a mobile connection for receiving calls and emergencies.
