Cell C won't work on iPad?

why the need to have data on your ipad at the 21Mbps or whatever it is, is normal 3G not fast enough?
 
You can do it, just need a mifi router capable of 900Mhz HPSA+

ya.. and the speed has nothing to do with the price, 60 gigs a year running at 21mpbs or 60 gigs a year running at 3.7mpbs still costs the same doesnt it?

True, but the Vodacom/MTN data bundles are way more expensive per GB than the Cell C. I would hate to know how much 60Gb would cost with Vodacom
 
The maximum speed youre getting is around 7Mbs from real world testing nad customer feedback so far. For me it doesnt matter about the 21Mbs as long as I can get my data at R50 a gig instead of R289 a gig, hopefully your maths is up to scratch BBoy.

People will use the Ipad for alot of browsing and apps etc, not much for downloading other larger media because its cheaper to do that over fixed lines. So all we need is good speeds, even 3.6 Mbs is more than enough for great browsing...... PRICE is everything here.... R250 for 5 gig or R289 for 1 gig....you do the maths...

What I'm saying ppl is that surely an cell c sim will work in an iPad just at a lower speed!

Yes, but I wouldn't want to use EDGE speeds - imagine trying to get through 5GB a month (or even 2GB) using EDGE - no thank you...

Problem is that you wont get anything higher than EDGE if you use the Cell C sim directly... Even though all the new speeds are called HSDPA, UMTS, HSUPA etc.... essentially they are all 3G and need to run on the same frequency....
 
They support 3G but only over the 900mhz frequency...which the iPad doesn't support...

Then again, when they launch in Jo'burg/Pretoria they will probably be using 2100MHz here :) Not sure if all the coverage here will be 2100 or if it will be a mixture of 2100 and 900 here...
 
Well, everything has arrived. Ipad 64gig 3g and the 3 network Mifi 3g wireless router. I managed to find a site online that unlocked the simlock for a small donation (R100) so that was fine. Its working perfectly with my Vodacom sim inside and has a great lil frontend to login and setup all the settings. Cell C, as soon as you launch....Im there like a bear...ipad in hand lol

ps...some interesting info....I would need someone to confirm this...but reading the lil book that came with the ipod I noticed that EU standards might be diff from US standards and there is perhaps a chance that EU iPads (like mine that came from the UK) could actually support the 900mhz range...and thus be able to be used with Cell Cs network... would love someone to disprove or prove this but Im just throwing it out there..could it be possible?

The 3 network Mifi router also does not support 900MHz UMTS, so it won't work with Cell C.

Only the new Huawei E583C MiFi router supports 900MHz UMTS, and it looks as if it is only available in Hong Kong at the moment.

It does not appear as if Cell C is using 2100MHz UMTS yet.
 
Wouldn't it be amazing if the 4.2 software update for iPad somehow magically enabled the 900Mhz 3G for iPad?
