Cell C's new Straight Up "contracts"

Seems I will stay with Vodacom after all. No use getting a phone with these contracts if there isn't a decent handset subsidy.
 
I agree, they need to look at the handset cost of the S3. But, people should really be looking at these contracts to see how much they would save on their monthly call costs. For me, it was R2.30 vs R0.99 - saving R1.30 per call, plus the free data bundled with the contract.
 
There are two ways of dealing with this ussue.
Want subsidised phone? Get Voda on MTN, but use it within allocated limits. You get rip-off when you talk more.
Want a good tariff because you talk a lot? Get Cell C, you are busy person anyway, you don't have time to play with expensive gadgets. Nokia 1616 +/-R100 will work for you.

True, but there should be discounts on the handset if you commit to a higher monthly spend.
For example, MTN offers the S3 at effectively R2856 on Anytime 500 (subscription R500 without handset) and at R1176 on Anytime 1500.
 
The key is data and phone and not calls and sms's/mms's.
Anything less than 500mb on a smartphone is pointless.
That's where the real deals should start.
