there's something very true about the sentiment behind that statement (ignoring the word "potentially")Blewett says launching an MVNO is a natural extension of Autopage's business. "We just hope it [the Convergence Bill] doesn't take too long because every day that it [Autopage's MVNO] doesn't exist is a day a consumer potentially pays too much for their calls."
You know what would be great, if we could have a counter up on MyADSL to guestimate the amount of money that consumers are overpaying as a result of all her Ivyness' delays, something like the counter displayed in Wall Street showing the cost of the war in Iraq...dominic said:there's something very true about the sentiment behind that statement (ignoring the word "potentially")
every day that the Minister continues to fiddle while the industry burns...
every day that we wait for limited competition in the form of the SNO to materialise (3 years and counting)...
every day that the policy that says that universal access is best obtained through protectionism holds sway...
every day that telkom's price control regulations do not take into account increases in its increased efficiency and accordingly in no way act as the fictitious competitive brake on pricing they are meant to...
We could easily do that.. most easily.. lemme get to it.ic said:You know what would be great, if we could have a counter up on MyADSL to guestimate the amount of money that consumers are overpaying as a result of all her Ivyness' delays, something like the counter displayed in Wall Street showing the cost of the war in Iraq...
It would also be nice if the media occasionally quoted the counter and said, "today MyADSL.co.za's cost of her Poisonous Ivyness to SA is estimated at ZARxGazillion"...
Ok, I admit I am certifiable, but surely we should try put a monetary value to her Ivyness' ineptness?
its probably not fair to lable all our telecomms woes as due to the minister's ineptness...having said that i have no doubt that if she were to be properly appraised based on her performance then she would have been out of a job a long time ago. as far as i am concerned the basis for all the **** currently hitting the fan lies with her predecessor and the decisions taken at the time of the finalisation of the 1996 telecomms white paper and the 1996 telecomms actic said:You know what would be great, if we could have a counter up on MyADSL to guestimate the amount of money that consumers are overpaying as a result of all her Ivyness' delays, something like the counter displayed in Wall Street showing the cost of the war in Iraq...

For instance, Input-Output data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics12 suggests that telecommunications services represent about 3.4 percent of the cost of inputs to Australian production. If telecommunications services prices fell by 10 per cent as a consequence of regulatory reform, costs would then fall (in the first instance) by around 0.34 per cent.
Kewl, you gonna put it up on Hellkom.co.za?MaD said:We could easily do that.. most easily.. lemme get to it.
It doesn't have to be exact, but we can all bash our heads together & figure out a guestimation formula...kilps said:How will you work it out? The counter part sounds easy but how to get it to work it out sounds hard![]()
Well we can try change all that, it doesn't have to be a counter mentioning her Ivyness, we could just give it a title similar to:dominic said:its probably not fair to lable all our telecomms woes as due to the minister's ineptness...having said that i have no doubt that if she were to be properly appraised based on her performance then she would have been out of a job a long time ago. as far as i am concerned the basis for all the **** currently hitting the fan lies with her predecessor and the decisions taken at the time of the finalisation of the 1996 telecomms white paper and the 1996 telecomms act
its probably also worthwhile to bear in mind that effective telecomms regulation & policy is an extremely daunting and complex task for any new government, especially one lacking experience of governance
but there is no doubt that the mistakes made and the sheer incompetence displayed have cost the country dearly - afaik there is n o comprehensive study of the correlation between telecomms and the wider economy (as there is in for example Australia) but no one doubts that there is a positive relationship
