CellC capping my LTE at a measly low speed (Solved!)

So while I'm trying to stream some online content, my video suddenly comes to a stuttering halt. At first I thought it might be a tower/server issue etc. Checking on my router I discover my bandwidth maxing out at 4MBPS as you can see on the picture. After some more investigation I realised my laptop decided now would be a good time to download all the new windows 10 updates, somehow this has the highest priority and absolutely no video content gets through. After killing the update process I could stream once again.

Now my question, is there a technical reason why CellC is capping their LTE bandwidth? If they haven't done it I would not have had any issues.



Yes, I'm too lazy to setup QOS profiles.

edit: So CellC phoned me and tried to convince me that they do not cap my speed, which made me check my router settings again... Turns out my QoS was enabled with a maximum bandwidth allocation to 3200kbits/s, changed it to 32000 and voila, speed test ran at 13.2mbps. My apologies to the CellC guys!

I had this same problem on my 4Mbps ADSL line. The only way to get around it was to use a Mikrotik router and set up some serious QOS on it. Now I can have a Skype call while downloading flat out without any stutter or interruptions. The problem with setting up QOS though is that it assumes a certain max download and upload connection. If you're on LTE you never really know what that's going to be.

I wish you a luck in future. .LOL.

In Windows 10 killing update process will help only for few minutes. After 10 minutes or so process can be restarted killing you watching pleasure. Search other threads how to deal with Windows 10 Pro. Some even claim they even have solution to Home windoze version (which I couldn't confirm unfortunately).

As for Cell C throttling your conection I seriously doubt it is a case.

Did you check out the download graph I attached. It had a perfect flat top at 4mbps. Thats not a signal or congestion issue, thats perfect throttling.
