Hey

Some background : Having had enough of VC BIS (prepaid), I ported to Cell C prepaid yesterday at a total cost of R10 (for which I received R 10 airtime), a reduced BIS monthly fee of R 57 and what I suspect is a much better SIM (128k vs VC 32K) . I went into the store to do RICA and the porting and probably spent 15 mins there. Less that 24hrs later I am up and running on Cell C. (I will reserve judgement on my choice to port after a few weeks of usage :))

Anyway, on my BB 9800 I see that my menu displays an app called CellC Explorer. From what I could gleen from their site and a few others is that its a navigation app and with - according to them - some cool new functionality.
Apparently the app only functions on certain handsets.

In the "small print" of their promo, they mention that data charges will apply but do not explain further and refer the user to their call centre for more information. The questions I have is :

1) Has anyone used the app and is it any good?
2) I assume data charges will not apply if you have BIS, but would like to confirm?

Any thoughts please.

Hey I also ported to Cell C yesterday :D and also noticed the app. Sync5! Haven't tried it out yet though but will let you know. Have BIS and almost zilch airtime so nothing to lose :P

Good Day fahieme

I the is really nifty, and with every update gets better. you can located certain Fast food and certain food places.
Will down the road link up with store in you near radius and show specials etc.....
There is a lot we are going to be adding to it .

2) I assume data charges will not apply if you have BIS, but would like to confirm?
In connection to billing charges that are not at all high etc .....
If say i use it say 12 time to map a route and follow it, it would cost +- 6MB

Hope this help.
Please PM me for any further info.

Regards

@ FATZESSACK - Once you have had a chance to check it out, please let us know what Sync5 is all about.

@ Cell_C rep - While I am thankfull for your additional information about the Explorer app, I would really appreciate it if you could answer question 2.

2) I assume data charges will not apply if you have BIS, but would like to confirm?

From your response I get the feeling that data charges will apply to regardless of the user having BIS, however I would rather have confirmation than go with an assumption / feeling.

This includes BIS as well, as this does not go through the BIS server,
It goes through Cell C standard WAP APN.
Charges will incur.

Hope this Helps.

Runs through the regular cell APN as opposed to BIS APN,data charges aren't all that huge but yeah, load a data bundle and you're golden

I've used it. It's not a bad GPS app although it can take a while to load initially. It uses normal data even with BIS enabled. If you delete your service books, it just hangs, trying to update or connect to the server. The data costs don't seem too bad, but I haven't used it much to really tell.
