CellC Micro sim R100?

so, i am upgrading my contract on sunday, and i will need to get a micro sim.
If they want to charge me R100, can i just buy a 99c sim and call for a free sim swap?

Of if you don't want to cut it as ginggs suggested,

First as the store, (I think the R100 is charged as "admin" by Franchise stores)
If they are going to charge for the micro sim, then try and get a cellc starter pack with the micro sim.
Do no RICA it, give Cellc a call 140 - and do the sim swap over the phone,

In order to do the sim swap, follow the requirement's on website,
http://www.cellc.co.za/support/faq_content/lost-your-sim-card-swap-it-for-a-new-one

ID number
3 frequently dialled numbers
Last recharge information
New SIM card serial number.

They do however say you should wait 24Hrs before inserting the sim, that is quite long, but I think it's worse case scenario.

Cheers.

Just thought i will name and shame:
CELL C BROOKLYN, who wanted to charge me about R60 for the number swap, and when i told them i'll just get a starter pack and call 140, they told me they can not sell me a starter pack without RICA.
I tried to understand why checkers (for example) will sell it to me and they can't, i didn't get a proper answer.

I ended up giving my sim to a colleague who cut it for me.

Sigh... You could've also referred them to their website.. But oh well.

and R60 isn't so bad as R100

Micro Sim

I went to a Cell C store over the weekend to get a Micro Sim for my new phone. I was told that once the old Sim is deactivated then I must know that the Micro Sim is active, this never happened. I decided to call 140 and found out that a Sim swop was never requested. I then did it over the phone and it was requested, however both Sim cards are deactivated and I can get through to Cell's helpline.

I think the other service providers charge about the same. That was the last time i was on MTN. And it was because the sim was faulty (i didnt break it or anything)

I kicked up a fuss - i told them they can do one of two things:
1. Say they going to charge me for the swap - in which case i would not use my phone for a couple months to dial out (had a spare phone and would buy a vodacom prepaid card) - and MTN should see how much revenue they would loose (I was spending about R800 per month on calls)
2. Swap it for free and i use my phone as normal.

They quickly decided it was in their interest to swap out for free. It really costs them nothing to swap.

Hi Thembinkosi Sekgaphane, Please PM me your details, id number and both the sim card numbers. I will assist with your request. *DM*

Hi,

I got the Q5 and did a sim swap, Cellc outlet at galleria Durban,

Did I get ripped off? R100 for a sim swap to micro sim?
Is this the normal price?

Daylight robbery.

I paid R20 at Cell C Canal Walk when I ported from Vodacom 6-8 months ago. The service has been so **** I am porting back to Vodacom.

I asked the Vodacom store in Mutual Park (Old Mutual HQ) for a micro sim and they said it's R65 for a sim (I'll port telephonically). I walked out only to get the same sim at R3 in Vodacom in Howard Center (Pinelands).

Inconsistent pricing.

Just to add i had a friend who needed to do a swap - i told him what i read on this thread, buy your own one for a couple bucks and then call 084 140 and do the swap over the phone.

Worked like a charm for him.

I'm guessing it was a contract sim, pre-paid sims are usually very cheap but contract sims cos a lot.

I used my TM nano SIM as a template and cut out 2 other SIMs down to nano size. They both worked and my cousin did not have to try to get a prepaid nano sim for his tablet.
