Wondering if these SMS stats include delivery reports, and did both MTN and CellC include|exclude delivery reports in the stats...
MTN did and probably still does charge for SMS delivery reports - it's one of the reasons why I refused to renew my MTN contract many many years ago, I also had an MTN pre-paid SIM for a short while several years back and I ditched MTN again for the same reason - at the time of buying that pre-paid SIM Card, I assumed that MTN had come to its senses - sadly I was mistaken. Are you charged for Delivery Reports on MTN/Cell C or Virgin?
MTN.co.za said:Pay as you Go, excluding WOW WOW and Call Per Second Plus, delivery receipts are charged at standard SMS rates and will deplete any SMS bundle. Delivery Receipts are not charged for contract and MyChoice Top Up customers.
Do they really?I suppose it is progress that MTN did stop charging its contract customers for SMS delivery reports, but the fact that MTN still charges its pre-paid customers for SMS delivery reports, shows that MTN has not changed much and is still exploiting the poorer customers that cannot get a contract.
They being MTN, then yes - see what MrG located on mtn.co.za.Do they really?![]()
While I agree, there are inexpensive data-based IM alternatives to SMSes, and it is also my understanding that built-into the price of an SMS & calls etc, is a per transaction hardware vendor fee, so not all the revenue from an SMS goes to the cellular network operators...That any of the providers feels justified in charging more than a few cents for a sms is even more distressing.
Really? How much? While I agree, there are inexpensive data-based IM alternatives to SMSes, and it is also my understanding that built-into the price of an SMS & calls etc, is a per transaction hardware vendor fee, so not all the revenue from an SMS goes to the cellular network operators...
