Cellphones possible cancer-causing agents

They lost me at "coffee" :)

Also, strangely:
Coffee consumption is also correlated to a reduced risk of oral, esophageal, and pharyngeal cancer.[20][21] In ovarian cancer, no benefit was found.[22] In the Nurses' Health Study, a modest reduction in breast cancer was observed in postmenopausal women only, which was not confirmed in decaffeinated coffee.[23] According to one study, coffee protects the liver from cancer.[24] Another preliminary study found a correlation between coffee consumption and a lower risk of aggressive prostate cancer.[25]

I take these kind of studies with a bucket of salt, personally.

But some advocacy groups contend the study raised serious concerns because it showed a hint of a possible connection between very heavy phone use and glioma, a rare but often deadly form of brain tumor. However, the numbers in that subgroup weren’t sufficient to make the case.

I'm pretty sure there is a link because my father died of this and he was a heavy cell phone user.

The exact causes of gliomas are not known. Hereditary genetic disorders such as neurofibromatoses (type 1 and type 2) and tuberous sclerosis complex are known to predispose to their development.[28] Individuals who were obese during adolescence have a three to four times greater risk of developing glioma than do individuals of normal weight during adolescence. Being tall also increases the risk; each 10-centimeter increase in height increases the risk nearly 20 percent.[29][30]

A *hint* of a *possible* connection. I read this as there being many other health factors which play a role, cellphones being a marginal factor if any.

I'll save my tinfoil hat for a rainy day.

Here we go again, I believe there is a strong link. I doubt we will ever know the truth, well anytime soon at least.
Again as I have states many times before, this will turn out to be like the cigarette fiasco.

For the paranoid: get a smartphone and text.

For the rest of us, nothing to see move along.

Simple physics is at work here people. I really cant believe this keeps popping up. There is simply not enough energy in your phone to do anything of significance to you. Nevermind that you need ionising radiation to cause cancer which your phone does not produce at all.

Next we'll be hearing that breathing leads to cancer since everyone that has cancer breathed their whole life  :p

I concur! It much more scary hooking up a CB in your car with a 200 Watt amplifier transmitting from a whip less then a meter away from your head. True the frequency is much lower but the RF burn isn't much fun.... don't touch it....

I say it's very possible to get cancer from them high tech gadgets these kids are using nowadays, my Nokia 5110 is still all I need.

And the physics says its not possible. You really are more likely to get cancer from bananas since they actually do emit ionising radiation. Heck, even this study puts cellphones in the same category as vegetables. Yes, thats right. This "damning" study says cellphones are as likely to give you cancer as vegetables are.

well that's not right :/ Down with bananas!!!

How did that fiasco go again?

We will only know the truth in a few decades from now if this is indeed the cause of cancer.

20 years ago the same sort of studies pointed fingers at overhead powerlines as a cancer causing agent, however many studies later there is still no conclusive evidence. This whole cell phone debate is heading the same way, periodically there seems to be a new surge of debate on whether or not they actually help to cause cancer. However it never seems to be conclusive evidence.

Meh, cellphones are a much less likely cause than cancer is a possible cancer cause.
Yes, that's right, the main cause of cancer is cancer.

Well depending who you ask, some even say that cancer is caused by RNA or DNA virus, and nothing else. Both can delete and add genes and genetic materials into your cells and can turn your healthy cells to abnormal and later, cancerous.

Go Google Human Papillomaviruses if you are interested.

But long story short.... Sex can give you cancer oh and that is a medical fact :p

No the physics doesn't say any such thing.

This is a standard bogus or pseudo skeptic response. "The laws of physics prevent such and such". No the laws of physics you know about prevent such and such but it does not mean these are the only laws or that you even understand them fully. Even if you did and something contradics some so-called "law" it would mean your laws need revision as they were then proven invalid.

Oh more bogusness... I take it you are going to stop eating vegetables now as well? Remember, thats what the study says - cellphones are in the same category as vegetables. Oh, you should also avoid talcum powder, its also in the same category. All such lethal cancer causing stuff hey?

Please go read up on ionising and non ionising radition before you say things such as "the physics doesnt say any such thing." And as I also pointed out, correlation does not imply causation. Go read up on that while you're at it, maybe then you'll understand my tongue in check comment about breathing being the number one cause of cancer...

Anything can give you damn cancer,if you're going to stop using you're phone because you thinks its going to cause cancer you have bigger things to worry about.

Go read up on the Interphone study. It showed 40% increased risk of developing a tumor in heavy cellphone users on the side they use their cellphones.

How about you address my points first? Are you going to advocate that people stop eating vegetables?

edit: here is something that your precious interphone study found
In other words, for most people cell-phone use appeared to protect against brain tumors.
I'm sorry, but I just have to lolololololololol right now
