Been doing some reading about the safest residential areas to live in for young families. What is it like to live and work in Century City? Is it an affordable and convenient location to raise a family?
 
Affordable? No.

Convenient? I guess if you work around there, depends also if you have kids and what school they're at.
 
NO if you want telkom adsl , they want you to pay for fiber if you stay around there , it is really hard to get adsl there i heard.
 
I have worked there for almost 6 years and I lived there for a year. If you are renting, you do not get value for money.

I would have considered it to be one of the safer places to live but with all the robberies at Canal Walk as well as a mugging attempt outside Time Cafe last week that was foiled by one of our customers I am having my doubts.
 
Leave Century just after 4 on a weekday & then its a mission to get out. Top place to live & work though just heavily overpriced...
 
I rented in Century City for 5 years. Bougain Villas was great, Villa Italia was a disaster. Main issue with VI was very high tenant to owner occupancy, so no-one is actively enforcing rules and looking after their investment which is more likely when owners occupy their own units. Moral of the story choose your complex wisely ;)

It was very centrally located for places I needed to get to like Town, Table View and Northern Suburbs. Traffic certainly has increased dramatically since I moved out and with the new office blocks going up at Ratanga it's only going to get worse.

If you're looking in that area then it's worth taking a look at Bothasig, Edgemead, Monte Vista and Welgelegen. There's also Burgandy Estate, but they had some crime issues at one point, not sure if that's been sorted.

I'd also like to add that it is a very busy area, especially this time of the year.
 
I live in Royal Ascot and work in CC. So far I have very few complaints, apart from terrible traffic flow design.
 
Thanks for the comments. What do you guys think about the semigration trend happening in our city? Is Century City a place people consider for relocation? Just wandering about the makeup of the people in that area. I would like to stay in a place with many different and interesting people. Don't want to live in a bubble.

According to the FNB Estate Agent Surveys, 74% of South Africans cite work reasons for moving from one city to another over the past 18 months.

Of those who relocated, 21% were retirees, 14% said they wanted to be closer to families and children, 2% said they were moving solely for quality of life and 1% said crime and security had pushed them to make a change.

The major difference separating Cape Town from the rest of the country is that once people are settled in the Mother City, they’re extremely loathe to budge.

Most Capetonians will only really move for work reasons – if they’re under pressure to get a job or want to climb the career ladder in Johannesburg. Loos says work reasons are given by an average of 80-90% of people who have re-located from Cape Town.

When it comes to ‘semigration’ (re-locating to other parts of South Africa), Cape Town has a much lower rate than all of the other major cities.

Century city is convenient from a location point of view. As for interesting people Bougain villas I had some neighbours I was friendly with in villa itialia it was mostly full of neverminded tenants who didn't care much for the rules of complex living.
