Why do you even bother trying to quit smoking? You have already failed because you're expecting to start again and planning to stay nicotine-free for 3 months and then try Champix again. :wtf: How's that different from what I've done?

You misinterpreted just about everything I said, implying that I took the wrong dosage or I did not follow instructions. Your failure-back-up-plan is even worse than what I've done.

Champix is a shocking drug.

Champix is a shocking drug.

You see i can't take your statement to heart because you never used the drug properly, that has been my whole argument. you failed, you never knew how to dose yourself, you never knew the side effects, you never knew the side effects lesson within a week or less so to me your review of champix is one full of rubbish. Since this is considered a broadband website, imagine i incorrectly setup a router and then come on here and blast the router for being absolute rubbish, then the users point out i set it up wrong and i still maintain it's rubbish. Ok then. Seems legit.

I believe in life if you keep trying you will eventually succeed. Some people perhaps think if you keep failing when you quit you should stop trying. Those people are just silly, they believe they can quit at any time but don't quit, i am not delusional. I know i have a bad addiction problem and i don't come across like i can quit whenever i like, typical drug addict mentality. As with any drug addiction, quitting smoking is a life long commitment and i have failed many times in the past but if champix can help me for 3 months and i can make it another 6 months i will run another course of champix and if need be i will do the exact same thing in 6 months after that to ensure i break the addiction.

I would rather keep trying to break my addiction, seems much better than giving into it. I think it shows character to keep trying, i am not the only one who has tried over and over to quit the habit but at some point i will get it right as many people who kept trying have. I have belief and no matter what sets me back i will never give up trying to quit smoking and i will quit smoking one day because i will keep trying. I have had your attitude about smoking before, rather smoke over being angry the whole time but at some point i will come right.

I may not need another dose of champix but when you have failed so much and there is a proper drug that can offer help it would idiotic to ignore the drug and utilize it to ensure the goal is achieved and for me that goal may take long but it's always there and i always trying to reach it. Anyways one day when you WTF up and realize you cocked up, you will always think it's rubbish. So let's leave it at champix is rubbiish and you are better off smoking, you said you could quit easily yet you still smoke, again you seem legit. So smoke away you said you can quit whenever you like, why waste money on a drug to help if you can do it so easily? Legit yo

wow ...

1) Physical and effect addiction are just as potent hence cannabis is an addictive substance.

2) You will not get seizures if you abruptly stop nicotine unless you got some underlining disease. You will be miserable yes. Its very rare for anyone to be so heavily addicted to nicotine that it would cause misfiring of nicotinic receptors

3) Dont even class nicotine addiction in the same league as heroin, heroin physically damages the brain with a single use (proven by fMRI). They get what is called "dope sick" and its fatal so its not the same not even close. Its like saying a pellet gun is the same as a bazooka. Also heroin is harmless if you want to be technical its morphine that does the damage. heroin (diacetylmorphine) is an inert prodrug of morphine which is converted to morphine within the brain and gets 'stuck' (BBB) hence why it causes so much damage.

4) Nicotine is difficult to quit because its association with almost everything. After meal cig; im bored cig; social cig; stress relief cig; FML cig; happy day cig and so on. They dont need to lace it with anything. Also nicotine has good benefits and acts as a mild anti-depressant.

As Sir Walter Raleigh had on his tobacco pouch (some refer to it being inscribed on his pipe)

"Comes meus fuit in illo miserrimo tempore" - my companion at that most miserable time .....

EDIT:

smoking and drugs in general desensitize the brains ability to feel joy as the normal level (the effects of dopamine). Drugs of abuse generally make the brain more sensitive to the happy neurotransmitter, this is where the mechanism of effect addiction comes in.

No nicotine is classed right there with heroine because it as addictive as heroine.

There is a reason so many people smoke, there is a reason so many cannot simply stop and often cannot handle the effects of their drug being out their system.

Getting off nicotine is damn difficult, for some people withdrawal from nicotine is comparable to heroine.

I would have thought being a pharmacist, doctor and psychiatric ward operator and possibly a rocket scientist(i don't know what else you do as you seem to do so many things) you would know this.

I started taking champix last Wednesday.

I have noticed slight headaches (mainly in the morning) and some nausea (not continuously though).
Vivid dreams - sort of.
Sleeping - like a rock.
Mood - not much different than I usually am.
Appetite - same as usual
Indigestion - yes

Ive noticed that I'm smoking a lot less than usuall without it being a consius effort. Normally when I wake up I would have smoked about 8 by the time I get to work - today only 4 for the whole morning sofar. But the big day is this coming Friday.

So let's see what happens!

For nausea i know you get tablet, i just wish i could recall the name, when i collect my script today i will ask the lady for them and tell you what they called, it's common, everyone keeps them.

Great stuff dude, i am also gonna start today but can i suggest we move to the smoking thread i will copy your post there, many helpful people there who know how to take drugs and read directions.

its not even close. I've never heard of people dying from attempting to quit nicotine. Smokers dont need specialised rehab treatment. Nicotine is addictive but its adverse effects are not comparable to heroin. Its the same as caffeine

There is a reason so many people smoke, there is a reason so many cannot simply stop and often cannot handle the effects of their drug being out their system

Yup. Access to ciggies and also I explain it desensitizes the brain to dopamine

I would have thought being a pharmacist, doctor and psychiatric ward operator and possibly a rocket scientist(i don't know what else you do as you seem to do so many things) you would know this.

Lol im a pharmacist in R&D. I used to manage a psych hospital pharmacy. This is how I know its not even close to heroin. When you dont smoke for a day or two you feel horrible but you wont die

I know in terms of getting off it isn't like heroine but it comes second to heroine, it is known as one of the hardest drugs to get off.

It changes your brain chemistry just like heroine does. People think nicotine is this easy to get off drug but go cold turkey when you smoke 30+ a day, believe me it's ****ing unbearable at times.

Do you smoke riax? have you ever tried quitting? Like i said for some people it's a breeze but other people it is a nightmare, i am one of those people the first 4 days i feel like i want to die. Then i am just angry everyday over stupid things for months on end.

chasing the champix with a bottle of tequila has this affect

I think chasing anything with tequila has that effect :D.

Ruby, read this article bud and tell me if the symptoms you felt correspond to nicotine withdrawal. The rash is certainly something to worry about but all of your symptoms apart from the rash could have been nicotine withdrawal

Ruby check this out bud:

http://healthquestions.medhelp.org/cold-turkey-quit-cigarettes

read the posts, someone went cold turkey and got a rash just like you did.

In terms of it's addictive properties, it isn't worrying to compare, it is a fact they are both highly addictive. The only difference is withdrawal symptoms are far worse on heroine but if you read the link i provided above you will see giving up is no joke.

1) Physical and effect addiction are just as potent hence cannabis is an addictive substance.

That is what I said. I was referring to withdrawal symptoms.

3) Dont even class nicotine addiction in the same league as heroin, heroin physically damages the brain with a single use (proven by fMRI). They get what is called "dope sick" and its fatal so its not the same not even close. Its like saying a pellet gun is the same as a bazooka. In terms of difficulty to quit, it is as difficult to quit heroine as it is to quit cigarettes. Quitting heroine (and alcohol and some other addictive drugs) cold turkey can be fatal and that is why it should be/is done under medical supervision.

4) Nicotine is difficult to quit because its association with almost everything. After meal cig; im bored cig; social cig; stress relief cig; FML cig; happy day cig and so on. They dont need to lace it with anything. Also nicotine has good benefits and acts as a mild anti-depressant.

I concur

As Sir Walter Raleigh had on his tobacco pouch (some refer to it being inscribed on his pipe)

"Comes meus fuit in illo miserrimo tempore" - my companion at that most miserable time .....

that's why it's so difficult to quit and stay off nicotine. Smoking becomes a crutch. Introduce the right stressor and the urge to smoke returns.

EDIT:

smoking and drugs in general desensitize the brain's ability to feel joy as the normal level (the effects of dopamine). Drugs of abuse generally make the brain more sensitive to the happy neurotransmitter, this is where the mechanism of effect addiction comes in.

Any mind/brain altering drug (including sleeping tablets) should be approached with caution. With my knee injury, I became addicted to pain killers. It was hard to quit and I experienced withdrawal symptoms, albeit not nearly as serious as heroine withdrawal.

No nicotine is classed right there with heroine because it as addictive as heroine.

Yes Killa, it is as difficult to quit smoking as it is to quit Heroine but withdrawal from cigarettes are not fatal

Going cold turkey does DJ, you go from having one of the most addictive substances in your body to having nothing. Have you ever seen a documentary on heroine withdrawal, that is your body going into shock DJ, perhaps shock isn't the right word but those people look like they are going to die if they go cold turkey.

They go into shock about as much as they go into hypothermia. Why not call it cancer too?

As I pointed out, shock is a recognised medical term. Stating that quitting smoking places your body in shock is false in absolutely every possible sense...

well you body is shocked that is has no more nicotine :D. So it's the correct word if you don't apply it literally. I have seen people say i am so shocked at the pricing of this or that but were they actually shocked by an electrical current? :p (this is a joke so chill out i know what shocked means)

I know what you are saying but your body goes crazy when nicotine is removed, i used shock poorly i admit that but i am certain people know what i was meaning.

What he meant is that your body goes into give-give mode. That's just awful because your heart says no but the neurons in your brain can be very convincing. It becomes noisy up there, then those naughty neurons start punishing the body by scratching the back throat so that you can hardly talk or you attack the fridge with a vengeance and devour everything in sight. To add insult to injury, the colon goes into shut-down mode. You feel pregnant and you fart like a machine gun.

http://www.forbes.com/2008/05/21/pfizer-chantix-ismp-markets-equity-cx_lal_0521markets34.html
A report by the Institute for Safe Medication Practices showed on Wednesday that Pfizer (nyse: PFE - news - people )'s blockbuster smoking cessation drug Chantix could have a variety of highly undesirable side effects that might make quitting cold-turkey a much better option.

The study showed that Chantix is suspected to have caused adverse affects ranging from diabetes, to skin irritation, to seizures, psychosis, and even serious falls. The non-profit organization started investigating the drug after it became clear that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration was receiving an overwhelming volume of reports of adverse affects from patients. In the fourth quarter of 2007, Chantix accounted for 988 serious injuries reported to the FDA, more than any other individual drug during that time period.

P.S. Cannabis is supposed not to be physically addictive. People become psychologically addicted to it. Therefore, no physical withdrawal symptoms. Unfortunately it is a gateway drug that often introduces a person to a whole range of more addictive and lethal stuff.

This is nonsense (off topic but still nonsense)

Haven't read the entire thread but I have been on champixx twice and its the best thing since sliced cheese. Without it I would probably still be smoking, the cold turkey thing never worked for me.

That being said, some people have different reactions to it, the same as ANY other drug. Some people might fine, others not. So clearly it didn't work for you and your body is not happy, it sucks but at least you tried it and you now know.
