Haha you suckers! You actually bothered reading that article! I suppose you only read it because you need to read a certain number of lines a day...

The ECN CEO says that consumers should not expect overnight results, and that the impact of developments like lower international bandwidth prices from SEACOM may only be felt long after the cable has landed.

Oh good... So we're looking at 2020? 2040?

yawn.. change title to Obama-ring SA telecoms ;)

I say if anything will happen;

End of this year or closer to the start of the World Cup - or worst case scenario - after.

But I expect us to see something happening very soon.

Dear Mods

Can we please have a new rule where aott get an infraction for each "Change is imminent" article?

Regards
Gru

:D

whats the use of laying fibre if theyre still screwing us with the prices, speeds & caps.
were getting screwed 2 ways the prices we pay, and what we receive in return for it.
-if we paid a fair amount (like R200 monthly all inclusive) but still received the same crappy servie we would be getting screwed one way.
- if we paid what we currently pay and received good speeds & little or no capping wed still be getting screwed one way
you what im saying....its sad!

Don't worry chaps, another 45, 268 more of these articles and we will have real internet

the more fibre and wireless and fixed lines and whatever that gets laid means more local capacity (backhaul). When (and if) Seacom goes live you will have more players trying to feed you that international capacity. More players = more competition. More competition means lower prices. Don't worry by the end of the year there will def. be more competition. We are just tired of waiting for it. We all know it is coming.
