Change is coming

Meanwhile Holdsworth, September and Carig Knott Jnr trumpet the winds of change but warn the consumer not to expect any meaningful reduction in prices for at least the foreseeable future...

From Wikipedia regarding SAT-3:

Telkom - ****ing up other countries when ours is no longer good enough.

This is quite lol. I wish we had power to actually do something about this.. It's gotten to the point where I read other peoples posts and just laugh because we all are f*cked and there's absolutely nothing we can do about it and we know it.

Hopefully the next party that is elected presidential status sells it shares in Telskum and then perhaps we will see change..

Space filler.....let us know when change has come, not still coming.

First: How much Bandwidth capacity does the Sat-3/Safe fibre cables have?

Secondly: How much Bandwidth can Seacom Carry?

1 i think like 10Gb/s
2 and my understanding is that it will launch with 80Gb/s and can go up to total of 1 Tb/s

COMING SOON TO A COUNTRY NEAR YOU!

(in 2019)

Change in this sector is never imminent, but getting the balls (and heads) rolling? Definitely newsworthy.

Sigh, how frustrating, ive just returned from overseas (Malaysia) and was connected with 4mb/s fully uncapped and unthrottled for R450/month, if the packages that are offered with the new Seacon cable are a cent above this figure we are being ripped off, unfortunately we will be lucky if we get 4mb/s for R1999.

so if you were cheering that your 3gb cap was increasing to 30gb for the same price or your 30gb cap is now 300gb, STOP! (caps should not exist at all!)

youre still being ripped off, BS will continue to seep out of the rotting wound of so called communications progression, my advice is to ignore it :)

I would be more than pleased if my cap became 30GB, for the same price. That would be great! Aren't you being a bit naive? How do you think a 3rd world country with only 2 operators could have uncapped products for reasonable prices? :)

By not ripping people off maybe?

The fibre cable gives SA the capability to get the same internet as everybody else and at a fair price, you would think it was a priceless gem from another planet the prices were paying, all im saying is dont get your hopes up, and be aware that it will still be a **** deal when compared internationally with 1st world 2nd world 3rd world countries, we will still be getting ripped off :)

@rippedoff But should we be comparing ourselves like that? It's like everyone's forgetting the major market in 3rd world countries is mobile.

I have a friend in california who recently wanted to know how to use twitter on his phone, so I gave him the wap url. Then he told me internet wasn't enabled on his phone, and it was a very expensive proposition to get it.

Me? I'm used to 0.18c/meg in-bundle on-demand 23.9/7, so it did come as a bit of a reality-check.

While it would be great to get first-world broadband at first-world prices, it's not likely to happen in SA for a very, very long time.

I am affraid there are plenty of clever foxes in this market. A little bit of room and they will shred the old gaurd new ones so fast their heads will spin... Just a teensy little bit of space... ;)
