Change is slow at Telkom

If I can defend Telkom in one sense... it's not really Telkom to blame, it's the staff.

So many times when I do have to deal with Telkom, I get people who are on the ball, make an effort and get the user sorted out.

Then there are times when I do log faults, and I know I just spoke to someone useless, then I have to "call a friend" and he helps get the problem fixed.

It's like every other call centre - it's up to the staff.

If... and I say IF...

Those agents go paid per call they close properly (which means, the user is 100% happy) then we'd see a very different Telkom! :)

I had the same type of issue, only mine took a month. My house is in a "3G dead zone" so I didn't even have any Plan B for when my adsl died. Being without internet for a month was mentally painful. Gone was those times where you were curious about something and just wanted to "Google it quick".......no email.....no online messaging .....back to old school sms.

I had to escalate my problem 3 times, I spoke to 4 Managers, and the "phone you back in 90min" never occurred.

I actually benefited from this whole ordeal, as I saw it as training to keep calm and not start lighting fires and planning extremely complicated escape routes after said action was completed. :)

4 days... Is slow?

Might I redirect the author of this article to:

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/317637-Line-install-any-advice-to-speed-things-up

I've been waiting since Feb 1st for a functional line (Well, one that can be used for DSL...), and another guy has been waiting even longer.

You waited 4 days, and complain it's slow?

- Edit -

And the only times I have ever been phoned back (I have phoned them over 80 times in total) was the lady telling me someone would be leaving the next day, then the person telling me there was no-one at the house (Being the wrong address and all), and that I would have to schedule with the right address at a later stage...

- Edit -

Logging faults don't count, since I think they blatantly ignore those :)

The problem is simple, NO COMPETITION. Would be great to say stick it and move to other fixed line operator, which we do not have, we should have one aka Neotel but they do not feel that they are the second fixed line operator.

Would have agreed with you until a month or so ago... On not one, but TWO occasions Standard Bank took a month to sort out two separate, totally unrelated c@ckups of note. Pity it's such a hassle to move bond accounts.

Exactly. The situation would be vastly different if you could simply change to a different service provider. But they know they're the only game in town and there's nothing you can do about it. For now, anyway. If/when LLU happens things may change. At least that is what I hope.

I feel your pain mate - I went through pretty much exactly the same 3 times last year.
My line broke, my CFO's line rotted and exchange issues at my grans.
The scary thing is... that I'm not kidding :(

My line broke 2 times this year so far. Before that, none at all. It was all fixed within a week. I think it depends on the area you live in.

Yeah been down that road a couple of times with Telkom they actually sent a SMS to say the fault was resolved without even been to the house to check anything. Then you have to start all over from the beginning again only to get the dreaded SMS again  and so it goes on

Its BLACK AFRICA live with it or move to a first world country mate!

In South Africa, it's not only Telkom you have to harass to get anything done.

Nedbank is another such candidate, which I have frequently had to chase.

Usually if they do anything, you're made to feel like you're being done the hugest favour. Too often businesses forget that we pay their salaries. Time they caught a fat wake up, 'cos I vote with my pocket and move my business. Like my bond moved away from FNB to Nedbank. Schlep? A wee bit. But I am immensely off.

I look forward to a time in the future when I can cast such a vote against Telkom.
