Hi All..

So I recently had my tyres rotated and only after did i realise that front tyres are worse off than the back (no idea why the guys at fitment fanatics did not inform me of it).

You think if i rotate the tyres again, front to back (back tyres are still Very good), i can make it another month atleast before actually changing my tyres?

I figured having the good tyres in front will buy me some time. I rarely drive over 90km/h, no hard braking, no sharp turns. What you guys think? See pics belowIMG_20180104_062952.jpgIMG_20180104_062937.jpg

If the tyre doesn't have at least a mm of tread across the entire width of the tyre, replace it immediately as it is illegal. Your insurance will repudiate claims in case of accident and you can get fined. It looks like that is worn to the tread wear indicator, so yes, immediately.

I am assuming you don't have the cash to do it right now, but as mentioned above, you should change them now. It's the wise thing to do. If you are indeed on a budget, some tyre places sell "second hand" tyres, which will be cheaper and will give you the grace you need.

The minimum tread indicator is flush with the tyre surface. Those tyres are kaput. Change them. As Sinbad said - an insurer would try their damdest to reject your claim if you were involved in a collision with that tyre on your vehicle.

yeah i thought as much! consensus! lol ok any suggestions as to tyre shops in centurion area and boksburg area? i work in boksburg, stay in centurion

If tight for cash maybe look at getting second hand tyres just to get you along for a few months before saving up and putting new tyres

Not sure what area in boksburg you are working in, but I have used these guys before and have to agree with this guys review, they were quick and have great service.

Retread, also known as "recap," or a "remold" is a re-manufacturing process for tires that replace the tread on worn tires. Retreading is applied to casings of spent tires that have been inspected and repaired.

are retreads any good?

Depends on the price difference from new tyres. I would stay away, but that is my personal opinion. If they are cheap and you are only going to use them until you have enough money for new tyres, then it should be fine.

Check out Malas Drive Style center in Pretoria. Prices are good and I have never had bad service from them. Phone them if you want pricing, they are not quick to respond to emails, the place is always crazy busy.

Since March 2017, but when you search for a tyre the site gives the prices and fitment centers of your choice. For example: I needed for tyres for a Isuzu KB. When I got quotes the normal way the tyres were 2200-2700 each. Found this site and got the tyres for 1700 each at Tyremart Autowiel Centurion West fitment included.

i see that.. thanks dude!

You'll probably still get a few thousand kilos with those tyres, but I'd replace as soon as I have the cash.

Last week I had to replace two front tyres. I thought they were fine, until I parked at an angle with the wheels turned, and I could see the thread coming out already on the inside /facepalm

Another thing I've noticed is that the price of tyres seems to remain fairly constants throughout the years.

Why not try TWT and their credit option if you have to and if it's worth investing in new tires.
Will be cheaper than buying 2nd hand a d then new.
PS remember tires have a lifespan of 5 to 7 years before they start to crack and decompose
