Last week I had to replace two front tyres. I thought they were fine, until I parked at an angle with the wheels turned, and I could see the thread coming out already on the inside /facepalm

I figured the same.. thought maybe if i swap then front to back should atleast take me till month end.. seeig as though its a front wheel drive.. good wheels in the front.. bad in the back

I take it the vehicle is FWD?

Also, that's what I'd have done. Those types are worn, but from what I can see, they're not going to pop in the immediate future.

It's not about popping. It's about sudden catastrophic lack of grip when you hit some water.

The problem is not that he cannot drive on them any more. I agree that he should be fine until month-end and even next month. The problem is if he is in some sort of accident insurance can deny the claim based on the tires not being in "acceptable" condition. I would not take that risk...

I have heard that stories about the insurance not paying out because of tyres, but according to a friend who has been a short term broker for years now, he has not had this happen once.

Perhaps if you're insured with a member of the Telesure group. Who knows.

I have not heard of anything like that happening either but they are well within their rights to do so. Perhaps you should ask, can you afford to replace your vehicle if it is written off and insurance refuses to cover it? I would be extremely hard pressed to do so so I will replace my tires if I were in this position. R2k feels a lot more affordable than trying to buy a new car...

Pickatyre or something like that. There's one in benoni and kempton maybe boksburg to then get Dunlop tyres or their imported ones aren't bad either. Bestvalue for money

Yes, but if you don't have R2k, you don't have it. I don't know the OP's situation.
 
Every single time Good Hope Tyres beat the price of everyone else. I usually go for the second cheapest brand, in my case Goodyear. :o

I settled for Pirellis at R620 each at Menlyn Exhaust and Tyre
 
If you have insurance you've contractually agreed to keep your vehicle roadworthy and operate it in accordance with regulations such as minimum tyre tread. Failing to perform your side can be grounds for the insurer repudiating your claim.

At a minimum, get legally compliant tackies on the car.
 
thanks alot for the advice guys! i realise what you guys saying about the insurance and stuff.. but i dont have the money to replace immediately, so i have decided to rotate and when i get the money, ill buy 2 spanking brand new tyres! i promise! thanks
