Charged for an overdue Mazda service...

Lol
Sign a contract and then complain when you break it

Ok

Oh please - how many people read the small print when they buy a car? And if I recall correctly, the terms and conditions didn't allow for this "15%" extra to be charged. They could void the entire service plan, but then they would lose the customer. And like I said, Delta stopped doing it because clients got annoyed with them.

But I'm glad you are perfect and adhere to all small print in every contract or sales agreement you sign...

Knowing when to service your vehicle is small print?

5,000km overdue isn't 'can't quite make it' material; it's a 3rd of the way to the next scheduled service. A month or two this way or that, or 2,000km at a push can be - and is - accepted by most manufacturers, but there needs to be a reasonable limit imposed. 5,000km would fall outside the most reasonable of such limits.

Perhaps - except Mazda do not have leeway here. Per the contracts terms that everyone is going on about, they either void the plan or they do not (note - assumption here; contract may have specific terms). And they either do this for all customers who exceed these guidelines or they do not, in a strict sense.

I am pretty sure they have not cancelled his service plan, and his next service will be covered (OP should confirm this). They therefore have no right to charge him for this service then if they are going to honour it in future.

And if they have cancelled entire contract, then OP should just have driven off to the nearest (and far cheaper) independent mechanic.

Which leads me to a question - did they tell OP this before, or after, the service?

Edit - I see they told him when he took it in

Assumptions? 'Pretty sure'? You'd rather them cancel a service contract outright, than penalise OP once and still honour the agreement for its remainder? How odd...

Nope. Delta tried the same thing a few years back - charged me more (15%; not the whole thing) due to a timing issue. Warranty still in place.

They eventually stopped doing this as it pissed off a lot of customers.

So OP, go and complain. If I were you I would swear never to do business with them or Mazda again. Don't accept this as being "perfectly right" to make you pay for entire service.

Maybe they just couldn't stand your endless moaning.

But good on them.

Why were you late? Why is it their problem?

That being said the +15% is silly. Cost should be the same, just sans warranty.

1000km is a hell of a long way not to find time for the second most expensive thing in mostly every household.

Not really, given the daily commutes some do in their vehicles.

Most every manufacturer I've dealt with won't even mention anything outside of 1,500km this way or that when making a booking. That gives one a 3,000km window... a return journey between Jo'burg and CT. Being 5,000km overdue is just silly.

Yes agree. 5 000 Km is out of a reasonable limit. 1 000 Km is getting very tight. My daughter does a 140 km commute every working day, so this adds up to 7- 8 days, not much time to arrange for a service. Only a small slip of a few days and you are over the 1 000 km mark.

What's the problem with booking a service two or three weeks in advance?

What's odd is your interpretation of what I'm saying ;).

They won't cancel the contract, (one reason being because then they would be taken to court for all the others who exceeded these stated parameters and who's plans were not cancelled). And if they are not going to cancel, they haven't a legal leg to stand on to charge you anything.

And those were just prudent caveats, you know, seeing as I haven't seen his service contract...

Unlike Sauronza, I don't make absolute statements about everyone else's reality just because something happened to me :D

Ok look, there must be a cow herd around..... :D

But I see you didn't read properly, as usual. I didn't say I didn't pay....

Have you paid for your bike parking lately, seeing as you are an absolute adherent to terms and conditions?

Seriously now? Oh, I'm 5000km away. Oh I'm 4000km away better start making a plan. Oh I am 3000km away, I should reach that in 1 and a half months time, so let me book leave/or whatever other plan...
