Yes agree. 5 000 Km is out of a reasonable limit. 1 000 Km is getting very tight. My daughter does a 140 km commute every working day, so this adds up to 7- 8 days, not much time to arrange for a service. Only a small slip of a few days and you are over the 1 000 km mark.

You don't have to wait for it to say SERVICE ME NOW before you make the booking.
Most modern cars start warning you of impending services on startup like 5000km BEFORE they are due. Then the last 1000km they tell you every single time you start it.
So that's 2000km at the very least.
Beyond the car telling you this...it's an easy round number you know what your car needs to be serviced and you can plan accordingly well in advance.
It's not the dealership/manufacturers problem to accommodate your schedule because you are too lazy to follow the terms and conditions.
So if you know you don't have time you book the bloody service a 1000km before it's due.
