Charting Fibre speed over time.

This sounds more like a hardware problem. Replace the router and see if you still get the link going slower. I personally found that it is not OS but the ISPs that cause the slow speeds.

Its a new router and I have tested it at my place on my 20Meg line, no issues.

Trying to get an agent on Afrihost live chat but so far no luck. I want them to check it out.

Thank you for this thread!

Is this vox fatpipe? If so, as soon as you have an issue you will be told the fatpipe accounts are provisioned 'differently' and cannot be used on OS fibre, and that this may cause speed issues and/or latency issues and/or packet loss, and you will get absolutely nowhere with them. Escalating to management will also get you nowhere. Asking to speak to a senior engineer will also get you nowhere. Threatening them with icasa will also get you nowhere. In the end all responses from them will stop. And PS: they won't give you a fibre trial account to test against the fatpipe product.
This is true though, so it shouldn't surprise you... VOX's Fibre and ADSL/IPC networks do run pretty much independently of each other from what I've seen

The problem was that they were not interested in investigating any problems, they just gave me a blanket statement saying the accounts do not work properly on fiber, and that's the end of the story. This is despite me having no issues before! The problem turned out to be an Openserve issue and I had it resolved - no thanks to Vox.

I can not say anything about the service of any ISP other than you seem to always get a poor first line dude that have to read from a script and hope you go away. It is part of their tactics. You can Google it. But that is not what this thread is about. It is about the ISPs download speeds and latency. So @mister is your line now working again at full speed?

In this case, I believe it's a tactic by VOX to (a) make sure all of their fibre users are paying them not only for data, but for the line and (b) get rid of their "bandwidth debt" from the huge amount of data rollover ADSL fatpipe users have collected over the years, by telling them the accounts "aren't compatible" and they will lose all their rollover data as it's a completely different account. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn they're shaping and throttling ADSL accounts used on Openserve fibre to force people to make the switch.

Yes Jacof I am back to normal. I just brought up the whole Vox issue because if you have *any* problems on OpenServe fiber they will do absolutely nothing to help you. I even provided them with a ton of diagnostics and I doubt they even read a single word of it. I just got the same "incompatible" story with every email I sent them. Escalating to management was the same story.

I am at home today so will get a chance to do some testing and try hurt the 400gb :) Thank you all for the help so far, really appreciate it!!!!

Ok so was running on gfmalan's account yesterday downloading and also playing diablo did fine not any issue's i could see, had lag because of the downloads but was expected i only have a 10mb line :)

Later on i switched to jacof's vox, my 1st game had 182ms, had dinner then my 2nd one i had 198ms still way lower then the best day on IS/Crystalweb especially during peak time, later it dropped to 190ms then last game i was on 186ms. When i am on Crystalweb/IS i am normally between 220-250ms during peak time.

So is it working on ISPs that are not on the IS backbone the way you need it to work? I am not a gamer anymore so don't know what the latency should be.

Glanced through the thread...recommended ISP for vumatel fibre in Cape Town? Was considering Vox but not keen on the R999 connection fee.

So now my biggest question is what ISP's are not with IS?

I know VOX is one but their 200gb limit on usage before you get throttled is ridiculous.

Cool Ideas are just very expensive. I don't need uncapped. 500GB is more than I need even with 4K Netflix. And that I get for R500.

Yeap unfortunately with IPC and unlimited use that's what it costs. IPC will eventually be dropped we suspect and everything will realign.

So I have been running on VOX / Openserve for more than a month now. All is still running 100%. Those who say VOX throttles you I do not see that and that is with my 4K Netflix usage.
