Hi, thank you received 2 test accounts, will be playing some League of Legends tonight, latency normally spikes from 6:30pm till 10, so will use my ISP Crystal Web until it starts with latency, then i will switch to the 2 accounts I was graciously provided with to test, don't think i will be able to upload pictures but will provide feedback via text. Thank you so much for the help so far :)

Hey All

So stopped my download i was busy with and decided to jump into a game of League of Legends.

Started custom game and instantly i had lagg. My Latency in game was jumping anywhere between 200-240ms all over the place. Crystalweb and IS this is.

Stayed in game and disconnected and switched accounts to one gfmalan so graciously offered :), not 100% who the ISP and backbone is with,
but my latency instantly dropped to a nice and flat 191 and stayed there.

I then disconnected again and switched to one jacof so graciously offered :) instantly dropped to a beautiful 179ms. This is with Vox.

Going to play a few games on both of them to see if it stays stable, will provide some more feedback tomorrow.

Good stuff. Like I said IS is the problem, the ISPs point the finger at OS all the time. But I am starting to wonder...... no I am sure it is not on the OS end.

IS have been the issue since the start of ADSL and their entry into the market. Seems things have not changed much since then.

Like I said earlier, OS/Telkom are always the convenient scapegoat.

I just want to point out that Jaco's own graph proves it's at the very least, a complicated matter.

Before everyone jumps on the "hate IS" bandwagon and starts getting pitch forks, his own graph tests 3 different fiber providers on the same ISP, which uses the IS backbone, and they all had different results one of which was perfect the entire time.

I don't think this is as simple as "IS is the problem".

Nope you are wrong. All ISPs on IS had issues (Major download dips) in my case. I had less issues on CI (not a lot of major download dips but others like gfmalan did, it was fixed I am told). I did have some latency issues that was fixed later on as you can see in the thread. I had no issues to date using VOX and the OS test account. I still need to test Afrihost but at this stage I am happy with VOX. But like I said don't take my word for it. Test for your self and make up your own mind with facts and data.

I also did not test 3 fiber providers. I only have one fibre provider and that is OS. I tested 5 ISPs.

Is this vox fatpipe? If so, as soon as you have an issue you will be told the fatpipe accounts are provisioned 'differently' and cannot be used on OS fibre, and that this may cause speed issues and/or latency issues and/or packet loss, and you will get absolutely nowhere with them. Escalating to management will also get you nowhere. Asking to speak to a senior engineer will also get you nowhere. Threatening them with icasa will also get you nowhere. In the end all responses from them will stop. And PS: they won't give you a fibre trial account to test against the fatpipe product.

Hi

Apologies for the late reply, didn't get as much gaming as i wanted to this weekend. :crylaugh:

So decided to jump into a normal draft game as i was thinking maybe that is hosted on different servers then the "training" mode. First off started with my Crystalweb and instantly 240-250ms, switched to the gfmalan's details and instantly dropped to 193ms, decided to play two full games on it and stayed a nice cool and calm 192ms for both games.

Then played another 2 games on jacof's details instantly @ 179ms, and stayed there for both games.

Switched back to mine and instant lagg.....

I read earlier in the thread something about using fatpipe adsl accounts from vox on the fibre, is this possible?

My main concern is gaming latency, for downloads crystalweb has been fine most of the time, just hate latency in-game. If my two gracious hosts don't mind i would like to run test tonight again for old times sake.

Please do test. If found the issues to be ISP and not OS. The more people test the better.

You may carry on please, and while you are at it, try to use some of the 400gig

I am seeing a similar problem on my uncles 100Mbps OS line, however he is using Afrihost.

After rebooting the router he gets the full 100Mbps, but the next day the line is down to 10Mbps.

This sounds more like a hardware problem. Replace the router and see if you still get the link going slower. I personally found that it is not OS but the ISPs that cause the slow speeds.
