Cheap broadband more likely

I really don't care much for Telkom's whining, why the heck should I?! They've done nothing for me. I still pay exhorbitant prices. Let them moan and make threats, it's time for them to start paying the South Africans back that have had to fork out the ridiculous amounts for a basic service that ALL South Africans should be able to afford.

They've never listened to us when we protested these ridiculous prices. Why the heck should we? I don't care! Give us affordable broadband and good service like the REST of the WORLD does.

My *however many* cents for posting this courtesy of Telkom's greed.

Steve White says the 3GB cap is very competitive with others in the market.
Tell him to go back to PE, where he belongs. Catch awake call, u idiot.
Now my company will save R10k/month using the IS DSL 512k line as opposed to the R12k 256k SAIX line.
In Switzerland you pay R5k/month for a 2Mb pipe.
Pro's of SAIX Internet: Latency, yep will miss those 300ms times now versus 730ms times to google.com
Con's of SAIX Internet: Big Cost

Strange when I pinged speedtest-ny.isdsl.net from SAIX (397ms), routed via fibre link via IS to New York
When accessed via IS DSL routes via Satellite (618 ms)

Hell no - we dont want him!

"We will review our prices, and we will definitely look at coming up with competitive prices.”

... huh? I thought to be competitive, you had to allow competitors into the picture... or am I missing something... like running a race on your own 'cause you are too chicken to compete and then saying that you are competitive...

"White said Icasa would battle to justify increasing the cap for Telkom, as its offering was “very competitive” with others in the market."

Since when are telkom competing with "others in the market"? Who else is providing ADSL? Comparing Apples with Pears... for starters, you cant take ADSL with you now can you Telkom? 3G on the other hand... Who else gets to provide high speed internet access over EXISTING CHEAP COPPER WIRE? Oh... and what about the fact that you can't order ADSL without a telephone subscription... for some reason it is too technically challenging to seperate the two for Telkom.... Man these people are thick.

When is Carte` Blanche going to do an expose on this? Why hasn't it been done already? Because M-Net is in Telkom's pocket! Just look at this season of Idols.

As a computer technician in the retail sector, I frequantly notice how the average person doesn't know just how much and how exactly they are being ripped off by Telkom (at least most of them know that they are). A show like Carte Blanche would do wonders to educate the public and perhaps a few goverment heavy weights. (Wouldn't it be great if Trevor Manual would tell Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri to sort out this screwing with our economic growth?)

I'm considering to start a letter writing campaign towards the mainstream magazines (like Huisgenoot, You etc.) so the average person can see what is going on. I mean, all of us who follows myadsl.co.za, and reads computer magazines like SACM and PCFormat knows what is going on and rambles/moans about it but I don't think the average person does.

Btw, I don't watch Idols, what is MerkZ talking about?:)
