Hey all,

I have searched and searched for a cheap digital camera to get for a nephew who is 5 years old. Does have to be anything special at all just gotta have a display.

Am i in a dream world where i say i cant be more than R400 ?

Any help?

Esquire has 10 megapixel benQ camera's - 2.5" LCD and all, for like R600 or something.

i know it's over your budget, just throwing it out there.

I always buy my cameras at HiFi as they have the best deals. Phone each store and see what clearance stock they have - at R400 you might end up spending a bit on sourcing it but see if you can squeeze another R200.

Then again, you do get WebCams that double up as cheap cameras for sub R400.

...

A quick check at Take2 brings up this:

R455 and free delivery

Yea ... the Esquire BenQ cameras.

THe BenQ E1035 for R499.00 ex VAT is one of the cheapest I've seen.

10MP
3 x optical zoom
movie mode
flash

Sony Cybershot DSC 1900/2100. Excellent camera and quality. It detects outdoors/indoors/smile on it's own. About R799 + 2gb SD Card.

Check out Toys R Us. I saw some nice ones there for about R150 or something. Not sure if it has a display though

:D warm fuzzy thoughts from a young age. Good call to steer clear from phones in that price range anyway. I think a cheap R599 Vivitar knock-off from Hi-Fi Corruption should do the trick.

My kids have VTech Kidizoom Plus Camera and love them. Not sure if they are available in SA. Cost was about $75.00 USD, but you'll need to get an SD card as the internal memory is extremely limited. Picture quality isn't great, but it also does video, and allows kids to add themes to pictures. This camera won numerous Toy of the Year awards when it came out.
