Cheap mobile Net takes off

The entry-level product costs R60 a month for 40Mb of data.

Tshepo Tsele, a computer scientist and director of Paperless Consulting, said: “Its not very different from what other providers are providing.

“The R60 package is ideal for people who just want to check e-mails and use basic communication applications.”
What world does he live in? We heaped derision onto iBurst R49/40Mb package and now we are offered this?

I took one look at their offering and deleted it.

What a country we are living in!

The R60 package includes a modem. This package normally costs R85 per month, so the price is very good.

“The R60 package is ideal for people who just want to check e-mails and use basic communication applications.”

Obviously the fool do not know that files and documentation are send via e-mail too, thus at R60.00 an e-mail he must be mad. Idiots!

Whoop de doo @ 40Mb's - it's next to useless...

...but it's a start into the right direction. More players, more packages and the such should start a real war as the ISP's scramble to get customers :D

For people on this forum, 40Mb is nothing, and sounds laughable.

My dad has the 40Mb package from Vodacom, uses it to check his e-mail every so often and it suits him just fine. Has never needed more then 40Mb.

There are people out there who do not, spend hours on end on the net. Different strokes for different folks.

The 40mb is not nearly as important to note that this is far tooo close to AutoPage for my likings.
12 Years was enough of them.

It would not last me 2 days in just emails! Man thats a bad offer.

40MB is ridiculous. Perhaps for checking mails very occasionally but you can't browse at all with that much data. Modem or no modem, that is just pathetic.

What makes it worse is he claims to be a com sci major! this irkes me even more.. why get this when voda prepaid is better? modem or not 40mb wont last long. Heck even for cell use only, email and a handfull sites that are in mobile form, and Im it comes to 75 - 150mb.

Its a good way to get a "free" E220. R60 x 24 = R1440. That's the only benefit I can see.

Its not clear from the article but they are offering packages up to a 1mb. the 1mb one is R300 which is much cheaper than anywhere else I have seen....

I don't know, if vodacom offered a data bundle of 40Mb for R60, I might well use it. Just for those times when I want/need to do stuff on the net via my cell.

Where did you see that?

This. Is. Bollocks. I will not heap derision on various offers because most ISP's are constrained by Telkom and our lack of international bandwidth - but 40Mb is ridiculous. Even for email. RIDICULOUS! Unless you are a person that recieves 2-3 emails a day and do NOTHING else. Which is impossible - thus once again confirming that this. Is. RIDICULOUS.

(Then again, if people let themselves get taken for a ride... Sheep are meant to be sheared...)

+1

Is this the cheapest one can get a E220 for?

Not a bad price in any case. I don't care about the stupid 40MB! :D
