Where can I buy cheap network cabling in Johannesburg. I need to buy 100m, and I'm not keen on R6 per metre which I'm being quoted at the moment.

Thanks in advance!

Cable Link near Cresta. I dont know their details but im sure you can find it on easyinfo.co.za on in the phonebook. They were the cheapest around when i used to do networks (4 or so years ago).

011 792 1641, and they not in Cresta, try Stridjom Park, just off Hammer Ave. (left into Hammer and they on your left)

This post is so funny after the conversation I had earlier. hehe. Buy 100m of cable and put R45 connectors on each side :) Muuuuuch cheaper. You should also buy the cable, boots and connectors from a wholesaler. I am sure someone here can suggest a good one in Jozi.

I think its the age part, noticing it my side aswell. :)

While we're talking about age....who here colours their hair. Im a 27 yr old male, and im getting grey fast! Ill feel a bit stupid to colour my hair, but i dont want to look 70 when i hit 30 :P

Try Cable Applications, Datanet, The Networking Warehouse, Pacific Cables, Wirecom (sister company of Cable Applications). All of them will be much cheaper than R 6.00 / m

nice one. thanks everyone. Sure this thread will help a few people googling for this type of thing.

Ja, w1z4rd, glad you had a chuckle. I had an argument with my boss who "doesn't want to be a guinea pig" for this new-fangled wireless technology, so we're going old-school with our office-to-office link.

But I must say, wireless does scare me a little. Will rather experiment on my own than put my reputation on the line at work.

CAT5e is a bit more work but I must say I have a gbit wired network and 100mbit wireless network at my house and I much rather use the wired link, less latencies and it's much more stable were as the wireless keeps reducing speed of the network to improve reception (even when it's at full signal strength, don't know why tho?).

Plus gbit networks are quite cheap to setup these days.

Try Cable Applications

NOT an experience I would like to repeat, thank you. That place is a circus, they can't even process a dealer app without losing it after 3 weeks.
