Cheaper ADSL access & free Gigs

great that means the latency on the network on the weekends are going to be bad again :( unless its been upgraded like they said :)

OK, but I need 300GB per month, so will this be better than M-Web uncapped ?

It will be better I suppose, because its unshaped compared to shaped.

If you want 300gb you are more than welcome to pay them for 300GB unshaped.

Remember there is line rental as well..................so its actually R14 saving , WOW, and 3GIG , i will use that up in few hours, good offer is u dont use more than 3GIG, buy y have 4MB then??? Pointless

I use this deal, didn't know Laurie would make it publicly available.

Remember that Cybersmart uses SAT-3 for their bandwidth, so when SEACOM hiccups or goes offline you have 3gigs free backup bandwidth to do with as you please. The discount is not significant but doesn't hurt, my major advantage is that 3 gigs of backup on the SAT-3 cable allows me to keep using the internet for quite a while when SEACOM goes down or when I need to bypass MWEB shaping for a little while.

And if you look at it R399 for 3 gigs VS R554 for 5 gigs from telkom it really is not a bad deal.

If you are using a per gig account with the likes of Afrihost it provides you 3 gigs unshaped for free on top of your existing cap.

Dial-up is the best option for them and a lot cheaper.

Telkom said:
Closer Plan 2: ...FREE surfing for an hour during Callmore time per month.....

Is it really that much cheaper? What about the call charges?

Edit: ...that is for R170 p/m and then you still have to get the dial-up service and pay for the calls.

Anybody recommending dial-up should have their head read. Just forget to disconnect once overnight and take a look at your bill.

I think there should be a seperate section on the forums between capped adsl and uncapped adsl . To me is see this as a good start for anyone wanting to get the internet , but it will be a temp thing , once you start to use the net and all the apps you will soon eat that 1 gig quickly . Then you will eventually move onto an uncapped solution . Sorry but these kinds of deals can only be seen as companies trying anything to get market share and to try and get clients away from uncapped adsl .

I would like to feel sorry for these companies, but if you look at all the "sudden" deals that are coming out now it make me think why could they not have tried or done this earlier, before mweb did its uncapped adsl? Maybe they were just riding the gravy train and just making money? Now the clients have left , and now they have been left behind , it is really sad that smaller companies might not keep up and eventually crumnle and sink . We need more players in the market , but the little companies will have to look at their offerings and compare that to what else is out there.

Capped adsl has run its course i feel, too long have we been limited , now we are free and yet some companies still wish to sell this kind of product. I wish them well and good luck but i dont have much confidence in what they are trying . It is like paying R10 for a loaf of bread that must last a month , or having to pay R30 to eat at "All you can eat" buffet every night ...... We are all hungry ....

Only problem with cybersmart(or Telkom) is moving your line back to telkom. Apparently you "might" have 2-3 weeks downtime... usually telkom messes the move up and you have to re-apply for a adsl line...

I call BS.

Where did you hear that?

And if you want support for your line, you are juggled between Telkom and Cybersmart with no-one wanting to take responsibility for fixing your problematic line.

Cybersmart's support is good, but not always.

Once I called their support desk and it sounded like they were having a bar fight in their offices, they were shouting like mad and I couldn't hear a thing. I had to call 3 times and on the third attempt I just tried to bear with the noise. Completely unprofessional!

The other time the concultant told me he would move my 384Kbps line to 1Mbps for free just to shut me up after I asked him what would happen with their offerings when Telkom upgrades our line speeds. Once again, extremely unprofessional!

www.easyGig.co.za is offering ADSL lines at cost. Also It's the most affordable capped internet available in SA. 4mb ADSL Line = R372.

iSAT got it for R371 http://www.isat.co.za/Products/ADSL_Lines.aspx

Ooh, when did this happen? Time/date? Because afaik they record all their calls!

@ld13: Called again afterward and they asked whether I took down the consultant's name, but they don't say their name when answering, you have to ask them for it, which I didn't.

Real professional support staff, when I asked when the upgrade would go through, he said he was busy upgrading my line, it will take effect in a few minutes :D
