Cheaper DStv HD PVR decoder launched

Okay so how late in the year do they mean they will add DOD and Series Record funtions? August? December?

In order to launch this PVR decoder before the world cup series record functionality and DStv ON DEMAND services have not been included but will automatically be downloaded to the decoder later this year.

The irony
A Personal Video Recorder that can't record.

Its like selling HD TV's in time for the world cup but telling you that the HD is disabled for now until later this year just so that they could provide you with this magnificent TV.

Punting the recording hours of the unit without it being able to record is just bad PR from DSTV

The sad thing is, they had to disable that functionality manually in their own software. I'm certain that openTV have it enabled by default.

Still the SD PVR decoder is much better than both HD decoders... 2 channels + recording...

I have a cheap LG HDD/DVD recorder but might want to get one of these DStv ones. Can some please tell me :

1) How do you get recorded stuff off a PVR (like on DVD or USB) and what format is it exported in ?
2) Are all the SD channels that the HD PVR show true widescreen pictures or do they have black bars around them ?

um, it can record. It just doesnt have DSTV on Demand or series recording

Damn.... I literally was taking my credit card out my wallet.

A PVR that can't PVR..... new depths of stupidity for Multichoice.

EDIT: Ok its only the Series function and on-demand that are missing.

I'm not sure what you guys aren't understanding. Its view 1, record 1. It doesnt have the ability to record all episodes in a series with 1 scheduling and doesnt have DSTV on Demand, these were not available on the other HDPVRs until earlier this month

It was quoted badly, I edited my post.

I'm keen to get this but i'm going to wait till there are reviews.

How do I get recorded titles off the PVR and onto my computer or a DVD player?
Does it have true wide screen SD channels or the ones with back bars all round ?

It has macrovision protection but there are ways to get around this
Same as a normal decoder, the only WS channels are HDs & some movie channels

its almost tempting to upgrade to a HD PVR now.

So technically you can still record?
All these other okes pretty much based their assumptions on a misread by the first comment.
And we like to think we all individuals?
Sigh
If i could get one in my complex i would but the complex doeas not provide the new LNB jobie with three cables and im not gonna get one so my neighbor can benefit off my purchases.
FFS time to move!!

Our last dish was scaled by the neighbour in our complex ... and her installers ensured us that they installed it themselves 5 years back ... yet our cable was lying there and when they "fixed" her DSTV, ours miraculously disappeared.

Well anyway, to avoid scandal, etc ... we were buying an HD PVR anyway and needed a new LNB, and the dish is for small price (like R100) or something ... so we put it up ... and this time, wrote our name on the dish in permanent marker :P

By the way ... you only need a dual LNB for your HD PVR ... the splitter separates them into 4 ... and you will require the use of both LNB's, so your neighbour won't be able to use it as well unless you get a quad, so just don't get a quad :P
The splitter sits inside your house.
