Cheaper DStv HD PVR proves popular

Their programs grew onto me at first I only watched sport and documentaries, then out of boredom moved onto travel channel and news then ended up on kids programs on Disney such as Suite Life on Deck , Hanna Montana then onto Nickelodeon’s Icarly.
I must be the only 22 year old guy watching those shows in the world, yea I watch way too much Tv instead of finding a job.

I want a HD 1080p that allows me to watch 2X TV's and record another - like the current SD PVR...

Listen up DSTV, here is what you need:

1) Entry level HD decoder with HDMI and RCA, no disk, no dual-view, etc to save costs - I estimate R600.
Then discontinue the DSD1131 - we don't need any more SD decoders.

This will allow you to migrate to H.264 vs MPEG2 for content, and save on satellite bandwidth.

As it stands, you will need to keep broadcasting MPEG2 for a long time.

2) Also please stop broadcasting letterbox, the correct format is WS anamorphic, and let the decoder deal with the scaling.

3) Who was the SuperSport idiot who decided that there should be no WS on SS[1-7].
Oh I remember, Clinton van der Berg, fire him - see http://forum.dstv.com/showthread.php?t=3010

As most mybb users know, WS is just as important as HD - in fact I feel WS is more important.
So, please start broadcasting SS[1-7] in WS.

4) And finally, get some decent software developers to fix the HD-PVR firmware - it's slow, buggy, etc, etc, etc.
The last update was Aug 2010, and it sucks big time.

Now those are valid points. Although I don't think it would cost R600. The 1131 is subsidised at R400 or whatever it is so simply removing a HDD is not going to drop the price by R1k+

FreeSAT HD decoders sell in the UK for ÂŁ60-ÂŁ70 - eg Goodmans GFSAT200HD, Xoro HRS8500, - these are not subsidised.
So R600 should be easily attainable.

The idea is for entry level decoders to be able to receive DVB-S2 H.264 content.

If Multichoice want to see their Pvr Decoders selling more, they should add some Hd channels to the compact bouquet.

multichoice aka telkom, just about the same neither cares about you. and yes all the sd channels quality have dropped. i have a recording done some time ago and the same show aired again, quality is truly appalling.

This decoder (HD PVR 2P) kicks a$$.

Best piece of technology I have bought in years :)

If any potential buyer is looking for one, Kalahari.net is selling them for R1700.
