Cheaper DStv HD PVR proves popular

Has anyone noticed how the quality of the picture has deteriorated on the channels other than the HD ones?

Are Multichoice purposefully doing this to make people move over to the HD PVR?

i still won't waste my time and money on that as yet if it was around 1200 - 1500 sure but above that i think its too expensive still considering the extra moola 1 has to still fork out for their services i think they can subsidise the unit a bit more

Well, we changed to TopTv and are very happy with it. Great service, great price and great viewing. We only miss some sport, but best matches like cricket and the Cricket World cup will be shown on SABC 3, so no problem there.
Also much less repeats, I repeat, much less repeats.
History, crime, science and nature programs also better than DSTV and less repeats here as well.
DSTV will never see us again.

Yep!

Not much difference between older more expensive models and the new one, so why would I buy an older model?

DSTV? Are those crooks still around? The ones that charge you 600 bucks a month to watch ancient shows over and over and over and over and over and some sports in glorious 720p?

I suppose they needed more bandwidth for the HD channels.
Therefore they had to reduce the bandwidth requirement of the existing SD channels.
;)

I just can't believe how slow the PVR's menus are. We have the old standard single-view decoder and its lightning compared to the HD PVRs. Can someone explain why its so slow eg. Trying to get into Supersport Zone, or even changing channels.

hmmm 364000 PVR subs @ say for example ( not exact amount ) R500 per sub = R180mil a month minimum.......eish.....

And I just joined the R600 club. I really think it's making the best of a bad situation. Options:

1. SABC - No comment
2. eTV - Too many cell phone adverts, poor content
2. TopTV - Still too new, content apparently good but in some respects not on par with DSTV i.e. sport
3. Internet - Downloads provide latest content but pain finding anything other than "well known" content i.e. series and movies (can't really "flip through websites and find something to watch)

That leaves DSTV. Okay so they have quite a bit of old stuff but then so do the free options. They also have the best sport coverage, nobody can deny that. They also may repeat more than TopTV (apparently, no flames please) but if there's nothing to watch, there's always the internet :)

I'm wondering how the TopTV HD PVR will be priced when it is eventually launched.

@ Pietert: Very happy with TopTV as well.

As far as I'm concerned if you complain about too many repeats on DStv then you watch way too much TV & should go outdoors once in a while

+1000 ... we watch new content absolutely every night of the week. What are these reruns so much has been spoken of?

I installed Dstv at my parents' home & I visit them for a week every second month, arriving on Friday evening & leaving on Monday morning. During that period I don't how many marathons and repeats I see on the guide.
