Cheaper iPhone expected

Apple’s highly anticipated event Tuesday looks to extend the reach of the iPhone to new markets as the tech giant moves to regain momentum in the smartphone segment.

What Apple needs is a better iPhone. A halo device cannot afford to lose its shine.

Can't wait for those iPhone fans to proclaim how much better plastic is :D

The irony will be epic!

worries that Apple lost its innovative edge

pressure on Apple to show they can innovate

we believe Apple’s innovation engine remains in full force

innovating under the hood

Apple does deliver a tremendous amount of innovation; a lot of it is software these days

The expectations that people have are unrealistic

Apple is a victim of its own success

But will it have an extra row of icons?

iPhone 5C, the C stands for 'Crap' or 'Cheap', we will be the judge of that tomorrow evening.

No, Apple will never release a cheap iPhone. It just isn't them to offer very low specs.
What this will be is a lower cost iPhone. The iPod Nano to the iPod.
And the C will probably stand for Color

It's not. Hence it being on the lower cost device aimed at the poorer market

I agree. The media are responsible for making it sound if the plastic iPhone will be a cheap alternative but nobody knows what the price will be yet. It will probably be slightly cheaper but I doubt they are going to tout it as a cheap phone.

Reckon this could be quite nice actually. Say it has a die-shrunk A4 chip with iPhone5's screen in a colourful plastic chassis. It would be fast enough for most things and have great battery life. I'd get that if it was around R3-4000 new.

$450 unsubsidised is more likely.

Launching a new iPhone model at the same price point as existing models ie the 4s would be counterproductive wouldn't it? The whole idea should be to penetrate into poorer markets. You can now get a 1080 Tegra4 13mp Xiaomi phone for $329. If it's not in that pricing region it's not going to have much traction.

so its just a service?

If I'm talking about the same thing then it's an additional page in the phones music player where you can listen to a bunch of different "channels" obviously paying for data... there's a little link next to the song if you want to buy it.

It will replace the 4S. People are not going to get the old model for cheaper anymore, they will just have the lower cost 5C instead. And no one looks at tech specs anymore. You know that. Hell, I have no idea what the clock speed in my iPhone is

But you know how zealous people can be about their brand.

I'm not stating it as fact you know, no need to be defensive all the time.
