Cheapest cellular phones in SA

Just a question, are any of these "subject to in store activation of a new sim at the bargain price of R199"?

Given that you can buy prepaid sim cards for R2 at Pick and Pay, why are they R199 when you buy the "cheap" phone? Just a strange trend I noticed :D

+1

and was't there another offer, a phone for R1 when you bought with a starter pack?

For some of these phone you don't buy starter pack, phone come with a new starter pack and you don't pay extra cent.

Got a Nokia 1208 for R199 at Ackermans. It's a quality phone, with excellent battery life, good keypad and a built-in torch! Only hassle is memory limit of 80 SMS'es in my inbox.

For those of you who know LifeFundi, they have two awesome CellC specials:
1. R799 up-front payment for a Samsung E1080, R115 airtime per month and 100sms per month for 24 months. The airtime accumulates up to a maximum of 3 months. It works out to an equivalent of R33.33 per month.
2. A CellC SIM Card with R50's worth of airtime per month for 24 months (loaded on the 14th), 25 SMSes per month, and no activation fees for R500 up-front. When airtime is finished, you can top it up manually.

These are both limited offer deals though, and not regularly available to everybody all the time. Dunno if this counts.

I can vouch for that phone. My family bought me a new Samsung B2100 Edge Quad. While it is technically a better phone and has more features I still prefer my old Nokia 1208, as all I need is a thing that can make or receive calls, has a battery that can last a week or more and if it falls into the water I can simply buy another.

the article says the phones come with starter packs so im assuming they are free? phones are now cheaper than a decent restaurant meal...

PEP stores is the only place that prices all phones with start packs. I've been buying a couple phones from them each year for the last 3yrs (its for Australian tourists my mother bring to SA) and have never had that nasty surprise.

Why do people store messages? & why more than 80 if you really have to? :wtf:
Read .... options .... delete ..... my inbox is always empty ... the send box gets deleted once a week :erm:

Agree 100%. My last phone was set to store 999 msg - when I got my new phone I set it to 100 (the min), I just delete them once a week anyway as I got tired of spending 3 hours hunting down an msg.

Actually the store will insist on activating the start pack due to the rebate they get from the networks. The rebate can be as much as R170 randts per activation. This is why some store will also include the "free" airtime with the deal where others require the purchase of at least R29 randts airtime.

Hi AniV
Can you give me a link to this offer?
Thanks

Hi all
Don't know if this is the right forum ?
My question is... Can I sell my "free" phone when I renew my 2 year contract. Is it legal for me to sell it or does it belong to the service provider ?

Regards

Yes you can sell it. You're just still tied to the contract obviously.
