Cheapest data recovery in Cape Town

Customer has contacted me and is delivering the HDD later today. Thanks for the recommendation.

From a previous post you stated you have a general fee you charge (inspection/handling?) even if you can't or don't recover any data. Something I have not come across in the data recovery field.

I will try and search for that post.

You are free to charge what you want but I won't use your services and won't recommend them either (I used to before knowing this). I have not come across handling fees in the data recovery industry, I have been quoted for jobs (head swaps etc) and if I don't accept the quotation that's the end of it and you arrange for a courier to collect.

Thanks guys for the help i took my drive to southbit and they recovered all my data the next day. Awesome news i'm relieved i got it all back. Now i've learned i must back up all my stuff cos i dont want that to happen again. Great forum! I will recommend southbit if any of u guys need harddrives recovered.

since this was raised, I changed my approach to a "no recovery no fee" basis. Im not sure if I mentioned it online here, im sure I did, but you so busy pursuing your personal agenda against me, you dont seem to give a shyte about that.

I'm not the one offering the service. Like every other person/company offering services here you are not immune to criticism. Now you chose to pick on me and I have only raised this issue ONCE before in that exact same thread I quoted earlier, sensitive much because it it seems like it to anyone that would view it!

Get over it or STFU! I'm not making **** up and this is only the second time I've mentioned it. Trust me you are not special in my book and you are making yourself out to be a twat right now.

You attacking me does yourself no good. Please do go and find the posts where I criticised you. Including this thread it amounts to 2 posts. I actually referred many people to you via PM so how does that amount to a personal agenda against you, I can actually go find posts where I recommended you.

You are conducting yourself in a very unprofessional manner if you ask me. If you look at my post history no one would say that I'm hounding anybody which I'm not.

Edit: You are assuming we read every post of yours so would be up to date on your policy changes which we are not. We remember what we initially read.

Last question, does the same "no fee" apply if a person rejects your quotation even though it is possible to recover the data?

If the answer to the above is "Yes" then I apologise to you for bringing this up a second time by not knowing about your policy change.

Suggestion, maybe go update that thread I quoted as others are bound to be under the same impression as myself if they have read it. I have not come across a post of yours where you state otherwise.

Your first ever quote on this forum is misinformed and slightly derogatory. You're more than entitled to your opinion regarding the service you got, but I don't see how you can slate other players in the market without any facts?

I agree that a reputable company is a good idea rather than a "rockstar backyard-type" operation, but this holds true for any type of service where anything important or valuable is at risk.

You say they perform "manual repairs"? I'm not sure what you are implying here. There is no 'data recovery machine' that exists that automatically recovers data. All data recovery companies employ a 'manual' process at some point in the recovery process.

Any decent recovery company should always give you a list of what they can recover and keep you in the loop throughout the entire process, that's basic customer service.

"R400 more than a backyard-operation" - every recovery company is going to give you a different quote, so who are you saying that these people are R400 cheaper than?

Anyone requiring data recovery services needs to do their homework in terms of researching the service providers available and doing a bit of research in terms of what types of equipment the company uses, history and customer testimonials etc.

Also note that if a company sends a courrier to collect the drive that cost is going to be worked into the final price somewhere, nothing is for free.

This thread refers to data recovery in Cape Town specifically.

True, it's not cheap. But it's like saying there's no such thing as cheap brain surgery. An immense amount of knowledge, experience, skill, R&D and very expensive equipment are required. It's expensive for a reason :)
