Hi guys,

What is the cheapest option of getting to watch the Super 14?

I know Mnet is R269 per month and DSTV is R499 per month.

Is there a cheaper way of getting to enjoy the rugby?

Regards,

Visit a bar.

Don't agree.

Friday night = 2 or 3 games, thus drinks and food = R100
Saturday = the whole day, thus drinks and food = R250

R350 per week - not cheaper

:D:p:D

Nope, don't think so. Would also like to know if there is !

I got a decoder from a friend and they'll multichoice will gladly activate it. Only thing I'll have to pay are the subscriptions.

That is probably the cheapest option.

I gave my M-Net decoder away a few years ago, I must try to get another.

Supersport setup some online service earlier this year.. http://www.rugbyzone.com/

I think it costs about $100/year and it gives you access to Super 14 / Currie Cup / Tri Nations and some others.

The downside is that you have to watch it online and obv. still pay for the GB's used.

I'm going to try a day pass when the Super 14 gets going again next year..

This could be feasible if SA internet was fast enough.

But with my 4mbps line running at max 1mbps I just don't think that it will work.

Cool. Thank you. I'll check it out.

Wonder whether it will stream off local bandwidth?

I'm getting billed R266 a month, so there's R3 saved already. ;)

Why would that be? Think I could get special discount on my Discovery Vitality? :D

If you decide to get only MNET, re-think it and rather get the complete DSTV package. Then at least you can watch all other rugby(Heineken, Top 14, Guinness Premiership) and also cricket, soccer and cartoons/movies for the kids. And if you can stand the repeats you can watch Discovery, Animal Planet, NatGeo etc.
Biggest reason I have DSTV is for the sport. And paying R269 for only one channel that only shows sport on the weekends does not seem worth it to me.

100% agreed. However, I'd rather take the family to Romans with that R230 difference.

I prefer other restaurants myself, but that's my reasoning.

Even if they had 200 extra channels for R300 extra, I still ain't gonna watch them.
I don't even watch MNET, just Test rugby, S14 and Currie cup, F1, and bit of tennis when there's a major.

If u have kids, it's another story.

I have kiddies, but fortunately they aren't use to TV, they're used to renting DVD's. And they're not yet at the age where they complain cause the friends have it.

But for that reason I'll have to look into it in a year or two...

Don't you get SS1 and SS2 with MNet on the old terrestrial UHF decoder ?

IIRC it was/is called Community channel or something. But they only show sports on there when they feel like it. I know they showed a lot of Gospel stuff on there when my father-in-law still had MNET.

Well there is a large saving which can go towards DSTV. How much do you spend a month on DVD rentals?
