Cheapest per-GB ADSL data bundles

Surely a 3GB cap is a 3GB cap - whether it is used in 1 day or 30 days.

I think that's exactly what matters. To them it is NOT just a 3GB cap (as it is with simple data resellers), they buy a line of a few mbps and have to resell that so that at the peak usage it can still give decent speeds. So with everyone using their 4mb line at peak times they need to buy a larger bandwidth pipe compared to everyone using a 384kb line. That's how I understood it anyway, the actual amount of GB doesn't cost them anything. That is why they can give you 5 X your cap at night because the network is underutilised while some ISP reselling a 3GB bundle from SAIX can't think of doing that.

The Cybersmart way of doing it is the norm internationally. What we're used to is a pretty terrible model imo, it leaves no space for innovation and SAIX/IS set the price to whatever they want. We're seeing better deals now that people aren't using that system anymore.

Digichilli is technically selling at R3/gig since its R300 on what would be a 384 if it worked and you could theoretically do 100gigs a month

Soon every man and his dog will be trying to flog a cheap price.

Except Telkom . . . sorry :o

Could you add a column indicating which supplier is used for the bandwidth (SAIX, IS or SEACOM)? I would like to take a look at some of these but will not go anywhere near IS after seeing the performance of their uncapped accounts.

Please explain how they loose money? if the network is in idle? if only 10 users are on? they pay for the speed of the line they buy....not the gigs transferrred.

That's why they have NightRider - for when the network is idle. Pretty innovative.

I get 10Gb cap (unshaped) on a 4Mbps connection from Cybersmart for R659 pm, including ADSL line rental and NightRider!

Subtract what Telkom charges for ADSL line rental (R413) from that - makes it effectively R246 for 10Gb minimum and 50Gb theoretical maximum (depending on NR usage).

Might not work for all, but currently suites me. 5 - 6Gb of normal surfing during the month, leaves 20 - 25Gb for NR downloading.

DigiChilli

I'm sorry to say, DigiChilli may be cheap, but...
I was excited to see we could finally get affordable uncapped adsl. So I went to find out how reliable this service is, cause im not paying R300 for nothing, eventually i found there Facebook fan page. The fan page is FULL of complaints about technical service, reliability and support. Maybe it is because it's new, but i would suggest against it.

Now I just wish Screamer Telecoms was like R50/R100 cheaper, but I guess that is a big wish.

These reduced bandwidth prices are great, but it would be eben greater if Telkom would not only upgrade the 4MB lines to 8 MB lines, but also the 384 and 512 MB lines to a higher capacity.
