Hi

I am obviously lacking the VOIP knowledge :o

I'm looking at setting up a simple VOIP system for my wife's office...

What I have:
ADSL 512 currently running with Marconi router / also have netgear DG834GT
6 PCs, P2P Win XP network

Looked at SIP-T28P-Executive SIP Phone TI TITIAN Chipset from Scoop
Looks like that can act like small exchange?

I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks
George

we could be of help

Hi there - if you could let me know what you want to achieve exactly I am sure we could work something out for you. If the setup is fairly small we can give you a number of extensions that can dial out at the same time, with the ability to transfer calls as well.

send me a pm and I will see what we can do.

Cheers,

Theo

Hi, Im also looking into a VoIP setup for our business. a basic package as we only make use of 2 lines & 2 pc's. We're on a 384kb line. We are also situated in Brackenfell.

Hi SWB

We have a solution for you - you are welcome to send me a PM and I will give you some advice. Word of warning though - seriously consider upgrading you line to at least 512 but preferably 4mbs.

voip setup

hi guys i know of a place were you can get a good voip setup with no high cost involve just pay for the equipment that you will be needing :)

I suggest looking at the Switch Telecom Hosted Switchboard solution at
http://www.switchtel.co.za/index.php?nav=value_added_services

You'll be looking at a cost of around R400 per month for up to 10 extensions all with their own direct numbers in addition to the main reception number. IP Phones vary depending on model but are typically around R1,000 each once-off. There is a selection at:
http://www.switchtel.co.za/index.php?nav=voip_phones

It would definitely be advisable to upgrade your ADSL to 4Mb/s. We would never recommend running 6+ phones and data on a 512kb/s ADSL.

Keep in mind that pricing is indicative. It can be cheaper or more expensive depending on what you you need/want.

there's a cheaper voip provider you can check their website www.wanatel.co.za they can do a full setup for you depending on what you want with no setup fees and monthly line rentals. they have good prices as well for local, mobile and international calls

I have been using switchtel now for 10 months on my HSDPA connection and I am very happy with it.

I have been involved with a similar setup.

You need
1 x Linux box
1 x Sangoma Card for PRI or BRI
1 x FreePBX (Asterisk with Web GUI) install
and a few softphone or SIP phones.

The thing I like about the above is that you have IVRs, voice recording and voice mail boxes out the box.

Its just the price of the PRI/BRI that knocks the costing a bit

Use fnbconnect mate.

I would also vouch for an Asterisk VOIP solution, just not with a Sangoma card, go with the Digium, its slightly more expensive but a lot better in the long run - you would probably be looking at a BRI card.

If you could find a service provider that supports SIP (or IAX) trunks you could probably use that for outbound over the DSL. You would probably want to reserve 64k per simultaneous outbound channel, but less depending on which codec you use.

You would also have the option of softphones (x-lite, zoiper etc & USB headsets) or go for something like a SNOM desk phone, functional and "fairly" reasonably priced.

@Sash

Howzit Sash

What bad experiences have you had with a Sangoma card ?

Just asking out of interest.
