Oh. I have a problem.
My car is a 1974 Golf... Their year only goes to 1992...
Its pretty useless for my kind of evaluation.

You certainly do, seeing as the Golf was only released in SA in 1978...................

So how does this work exactly?
Price listed is what my car worth now?

Or when i sell it, minus what else?

Shows for my picanto 73k only brought mine for 40k

I think total loss is 60k

So according to this, what will most dealers pay?

Put in a lot of fixing up recently, hoping all these repairs will finally come back to me.....

Removed exhuast, respray and repair bumper,
Original wheelcovers, new front tires, engine light off,

Your car is worth what a willing buyer is prepared to pay for it on the open market and not what a book says.

Market value (what you can sell it for) is determined by the market and not by a book, so you would have to look at the previous sales of your vehicle and what they are currently being advertised for.

Other values such as book value, trade value and so on you can calculate in a book yes, but not market value.

Vehicle: 2014 i20 CRDI
Mileage: 32000
Condition: Very good
Extras: R2500

Your estimate
R180000
The calculation
R191176
The difference
R11176

This calculation seems a bit high.
I bought the car a year ago for R196k. about 20k less than the selling price at the time.

Yes, I agree with you - your estimate is probably closer to market value than theirs - that is why I find these calculations useless, as the market will always dictate its own price, and the only way to get a correct trade value is to take the car into a dealer and have a proper valuation done - that being said and going back to your i20 - it would probably retail for R 180 000 and trade would be closer to the 160 mark.

The paperwork, if i recall, stated its a 1974.
I did double check last year because I know that they didn't come here then and I was trying to find out where this one came from.
THAT SAID... I asked my wife where her car papers are, "Oh, I didn't need them so I threw them away" :wtf: :wtf:

I'll have to get them reprinted... sigh.

If it's a 74, then it's imported and nobody will give you a price on it - it might be worth checking with VW clubs to see if anyone is interested - those types of car will call their own numbers, and in the end, it's what possibly a collector is willing to pay for it.

Tell your wife that she's just cost you R 550 and a three week wait for the papers..

Has my Audi A3 2010 1.8T s-tronic at 206k now (excluding any value I would attribute to optional extras). The one Audi dealer gave me a market value of 188k last year , October 2014. I think he ignored optional extras though I can't remember exactly. I got about 50k of optional extras in if one was to replace them as new.

One of the saddest things is that most Dealers will ignore the "extras" on a VAG product.

Anyone who thinks that they will get something back for them is in for a shock.

Used dealer never add extra for options in my experience...

Correct.

PLUS, let me please repeat - checking the value of your car on line is a total and utter waste of time!

So even if I'm not planning on selling, what's a good way to get a validation?

I once took a chance and called those " webuycars" people, gave me much less than I imagined,

But as always shopping around pays off...
