Check your Exchange Speed

I get the following error:

Dammit!

Thanks though, I'm sure this will help lots of people :)

You have to refresh the site a whole bunch of times before it works. Wonderful design.... I know! All that effort just to see that Centurion still has NO 10Mbps lines.

My old place has just been upgraded... 2 months after I move out!!! My new place doesn't even give me solid 4mbps, so I downgraded to 1mbps. Sigh

The website claims my exchange (overport-durban) supports 10mb/s however I only sync at 4mb/s
When I called telkom they said the exchange has not been upgraded yet..WTF!!

Is anyone getting higher speeds at overport exchange??

Anyone know how many exchanges have been upgraded so far? I wonder how long it will be before we see high speed VDSL street cabinets.

Still on 4mb on my exchange. Though doesn't really matter if they upgrade it to 10 as I'm only just able to afford 1mbs atm.

Pardon my ignorance and stupidity. But maybe someone can set me right here.

My exchange is 10Mbps capable, but my line only ever syncs at 1Mbps (paying for DSL Fastest, and about 2/3km away from exchange).

Is this due to my ISP connection package? I've got two basic accounts with Webafrica and Axxess. How will I ever know if my modem/router will actually sync at 4/10Mbps if my account isn't capable of doing so. I need to know if I can actually sync at a better speed before I splash out on a higher grade account.

The router is a Tenda W548D ADSL2+ if that is any help.

ADSL Support : Your exchange support ADSL

Max speed supported by your exchange: 10240

I wish that were actually true... not going to bother asking for an upgrade just yet.

Well log onto your router and take a look at the speed it's syncing at.

My exchange has supported 10Mbs for a while now but Telkom still claims I can only get 4Mbs.

So if my exchange supports 10meg (supposedly) but my router shows max attainable rate around 6400, should I ask Telkom to be placed on the 10meg profile or the 6meg? In other words will 10meg self-negotiate down to stable 6, or must it be pegged at 6 to be stable?

Woohoo what a pleasant surprise
Code:
ADSL Support : Your exchange support ADSL

Max speed supported by your exchange: 10240

I just phoned and was told that people are currently automatically updated to 10mbps if their exchange supports it and they're on 4mbps, since it's in its 'pilot stages'.

When I asked if the guy could tell me if the exchange is 10mbps capable anyway he just shrugged me off, telling me "if you're on a 4mbps line and the exchange supports it you'll automatically be set up to get up to 10mbps service".

I hate people like that. I'm going to phone again in a bit, see if I can get someone else on the line that's a bit more compliant, as I don't doubt that 4mbps users aren't automatically upgraded - I mean, if they have 4mbps but their connection to the exchange can only realistically get up to 6mbps, wouldn't that be potentially bad for the client on account of a noisy connection?

*edit*

After phoning again I got through to a lady that actually took my number to check the exchange with, and she said it's still limited to 4096kbps max. Checked on my router and the only modulation it can get a connection on is G.Dmt, so I'm guessing we don't have ADSL2+ yet, and so no 10mbps :l oh well

Erm, I called Telkom to upgrade and they say I can only get up to 6Mbps according to 'the system'. If I tell the guy to put me on a 10Mbps profile would the exchange renegotiate the sync speed lower if problems arise or must it be changed manually?

If you ask them to put you on the 10mbps profile, your modem would negotiate with the exchange on its own to find a stable speed that both are happy with - no need for manual intervention, unless something goes wrong with the negotiation(s)...
