If I recall the topology is essentially

Computer
Router
DSLAM
Exchange
IPC
ISP
Rest of Interwebs

The exchange component needs to be using the Metro Ethernet hardware, or something to that effect, or you're not going to be able to connect to the rest of the network at 10mbps anyway.

I'm only going on umpteenth hand information though, so I'm open to correction.

My exchange supports 10 meg (according to the site), I have a 4 meg line.

When I phoned Telkom they said that my line will not support 10meg BUT they also noted that my line was with another non-Telkom isp

Oo

:/

If this is some ploy to keep my line with Telkom then they can kiss my a$$, not worth it.
and no i'm not on an uncapped package or some other package that can't be upgraded, I pay the same as the 10 meg package.

What I meant is that some ISP's have separate 10 meg and 4 meg packages... so you have to tell them that you want to move. You wont be upgraded automatically.
The package I am on is the same price regardless if you are 10 meg or 4 meg.

Uh, oh...

Well in that case, what package are you on that you pay 'the same as 10mbit uncapped users'? Because that sounds downright daft to me.

ADSL Support : Your exchange support ADSL

Max speed supported by your exchange: 10240

BUT my exchange it like 4 kms away so they can only give me 384.....so they say. There's an exchange across the road, but my exchange is 4kms away...they say "Sorry!"

The Telkom ADSL checker doesnt work.
It claims my exchange is capable of 1Mb.
i am currently on 2Mb. after 3 calls to telkom and a lot of fighting I found out my exchange is capable of upto 10Mb.

Mine still has a maximum of 4 megs yet my work down the road can get 10, but their number says max 4 meg so the site isn't accurate at all :(

Anyone body know if these speed "upgrades" will upgrade the exchange.

I've been on 4mb and my exchange only supports 4?
After the upgrades would it support 10mb???

Id really like to upgrade to 10mb :p

The how-to-guide section doesn't have the correct url, thought I'd post it here.

My line is 4Mb, but my Exchange can handle 10Mb now it seems - woot!

Time to upgrade methinks

Link has said 10mbps for a long time for my exchange. I call one every 6 months in the hopes it is true only to be told 10mbps is not in their planning for the foreseeable future.

I am syncing at 6mbps and that link tells me current speed is 4mbps.

Would not trust anything you see there.
