I think the idea of a running total for your shopping alone would be a major shopping difference for many people.

Thats a very good point. You would also immediately be able to see price discrepancies between "till" and label.

Dont get me wrong, I would probably use it - I reuse my plastic bags and save probably around R500 a year by reusing them so it would be great if I also pack as I buy and just walk out.

Its a very great comeback after their other automation test (the Amazon copy) didnt result into anything.

Yes, it was just for staff, but it would have been the blueprint for rollout to the public.

I suspect it didnt work since Amazon's model used Always Indians to correctly identify items.

They are probably incorporating the tech from the app - I dont see that they would need to change much

Which would also be the reason Checkers pushed the "updated" app so much since late last year even with all the teething issues. And not long after that they launched the web version

interesting idea, at least those little coin boxes with a chain attached, where you have to put a coin in the slot to pay for a trolley hasnt yet come here.

although reading this comment Checkers or PNP will jump on the idea soon enough

The ones I saw at Save On in Vancouver 10 years back gave you the coin back when you returned the trolley and put the chain lock back in.

Aah I didn’t know there’s a web version.

Could be a security concern if all you have to do is scan your barcode.

Hopefully some kind of 2FA via the app to login to your trolley.

Or maybe like with the Checkers UNIQ stores, you scan/swipe your Checkers card on the trolley

We had that 20 years or more ago. It was a massive pain in the ass.
