Neotel, after waiting for 2 years for you to come, you finally arrive, however you don’t offer me anything good, Iam a student, so to add R200 for ADSL to my parents Telkom line is just far better for me, So thanks for trying, but you’ve lost me,going to sign up to Telkom ADSL next week, Cheers

How do you expect a new Telco to offer you services right away? You do know the undertaking required to build a national network... and then the even bigger undertaking to blanket a metro area? Plus, R1000pm for uncapped internet is a bloody good deal, you try get that from ANY other company offering internet. Where abouts are you?

How about instead, you sign up for R200 ADSL, and then when Neotel offer a service you or your parents are satisfied with then ditch the ADSL?

On the one hand, Neotel's cost of entry is too high.

On the other hand, they most probably have this policy to prevent their systems from being flooded by low ARPU customers.

Obviously their business plan is to get at least R250 per customer per month.

Didn't you just say mommy and daddy are paying for the account??

As I understood it they probably pay for the analogue line rental? Then he would just have to give them R200 a month to add DSL and get a bit of bandwidth rather than pay for another line at his place?

You've never been on Neotel...

sign-up with Telkom but when your DSL goes down do not complain that I never told you about it or that Telkom copper gets stolen.

Neotel - are operating 24/7 hours.....

things are better. I just use the net 24/7 now I've 3 back-ups just in case things go down...

Well nothing is ever 100% reliable and all the telcos have issues. I think that people are just frustrated because we have waited so long for fixed line competition but now can't get fixed lines and so emotions run wild. I guess we will just have to wait. When I finally (hopefully not in 10 years time) get a fixed line from Neotel the wait would have been worth it!

Until then I am a little disappointed with their wireless option...and no I don't have it cause I am not covered. Things like the contract and USB modem get me down but I am sure that they will fix that in time :)

Well you can sign-up for a contract... If you not satisfied you can cancel at any given time and pay the device fees.

I am also very disappointed at how much we pay our telcom for internet connectivity it's like placing down 10 % of your salary down or more....

I for one am glad that Neotel will bring fibre to the home, but when I am not sure...

Maybe we can pay R500 per month for uncap 2 meg during the time the new undersea cable comes in place...

Fifa - I are also complaining how much bandwidth cost.

Hi,

They are offering service in my area, but not any prepaid options or internet only options, I understand they still new.

I did not get the ADSL yet, as the call centre and the Telkom direct shop are saying different stories, (and Telkmo Direct do not answer their Phone).

Ya I will not sign any contracts with Telkom, so I can change when Neotel is ready, but if they offer the op-out option on the contract then i may take it, as Neotel will drive Telkom’s prices down (I hope)

I see they laying orange pipes passed my street, is this for there fibre to home solution, or for business only, anyone know?

not greed, capitalism. look it up some time. i am pissed about the telco situation as the next person, but expecting low low prices out of thin air (and with our favorite DoC stalwarts, emphasis on the warts) you have another thing coming. as far as building their own networks is concerned - itll take some time and the capital outlay will be so large that they will continue raping us for years to come.

thats it from me, the ever glowing optomist, now back to drown myself in tequila...

We are not talking about low low prices, just reasonable.

If Neotel can do it why can't they(Neotel must also build their own Network)

I would not mind paying R600 for uncap 4 meg dsl per month..
Even if they can cap me at reasonable CAP lets say 100 gig. That would be more than enough for all users...

Well Neotel AFAIK, they do not use Telkom infrastructure at all meaning SAT3...
They delivery via Sat.

They use the TATA Group to delivery International bandwidth.

And more Undersea cable is needed to reduce prices to come down :( as to much strain is put on SAT3 :(
