Morning Folk's

I've been in restaurants pretty much my whole life. I've inherited many skill sets. Many of which can be applied to other careers. So this is why I've posted this. I'm looking for non restaurant options where I can use what I got... but differently.

Why? Cause I want a family and being a chef I don't have time or finances to do this.

So who is gonna take a look at my cv and offer me a totally different opportunity? No scams or bull. I'm talking a real day to day job with a decent salary. PM me and let's chat. I'm 37 year old, multilingual European guy, based in Cape Town.

Perhaps contact some large companies who have in house canteens?

Or stores like Woolworths who have restaurants .... unless you want to get out of cooking.

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad the discussion started. I was getting worried it was a monologue. Lol.

Teaching is an awesome idea, but it would mean another round of university. Not just walk into a job. If it was the case I could do it. I do like the idea.

Corporate canteens are a no go for me. I've done Fedics before cooking meals for R12.50. There's no love in it I can assure you. Woolworths is probably the worst company to work for in the country. Sure you get to rummage thru the leftovers and buy cheap food. But there hours are grossly unfair and the pay is just above the breadline. They bribe you with free-ish food.

Yes I do want out of the industry I've seen enough to make toes curl. But the industry is like the mafia. ... easy to get in..... cost you your life to get out.

Let's keep the convo going, I'm sure a bright spark out there will have an offer.

Only if you go the formal teaching route.

Why not just offer cooking classes in a private tuition capacity?

Or start a food delivery business like the one I make use of. I've calculated that even on a small margin the company I use it profiting at least 100k a month.

I love all of you for the ideas, you're all missing the point.
I've done food for 18 years. I want Out.

I want a job in sales or marketing etc. Or sit on my ass in front of a pc all day.

There's only so many ways to do chicken. I've done them all.

I got 361 views on the thread though. Yay. Only one person asked me for my cv . No reply. Such is life. The search continues.

I should be grand master in no time.
 
Good luck bud, hope you get out of the industry. I was in it for nearly 6 years and there is no life as a chef and no time for family. I hope you find something else.

Thank you. I appreciate it. What did you end up doing? I see so many folks think they all Gordon. But when it comes to working Ur butt off and you see little gratitude or rewards. .. you kinda look at what's more important. I'd give my left nutt for a child of my own . It's more important to me than any thing else.
 
Was in the trade way to long, over 10 years. It's a great life for a while but the hours and pay sucked. Have you tried retail.

Nope not retail. That's why I offered my cv so folks
would go... sure we could use a guy like this. :)
