Chef seeks other opportunities

There is so much money in food but also lots of people getting fingers burnt.

Ok I get it, you want to get out of the industry completely.

Start your own online business maybe in whatever field interests you? My mom started hers at the tender age of 67

That's where I don't have the skills. Programing etc I honestly suck at it. But I'm going to brainstorm some ideas.

Born here, German and English parents. I finished school here and moved to Luxembourg at 17.My heart is in Italian cuisine. I speak the language, mix with the people, imported the food, and cooked Italian food professionally for over 10 years.

So, have you considered teaching the language?

I know French and German are most in demand but there are some places where people study Spanish and Italian as well.

why are you using teaching as a yardstick for low salaries:confused:

They may not be on the higher end of the salary scale, but they okish

I was reading some Picard posts. And yes, for something that requires a degree, it's very low.

My mom can barely use a cell phone....you don't need any IT skills to open an online business, just a good idea and then lots of online marketing
You don't need programming skills, there are thousands of free templates and website types

I'd love to know what generic jobs salaries are. It's like the more you run around the less you get. Sit still and earn a fortune. Lol.

Nope, footballers are ridiculously overpaid and all they do is run around and kick balls. :D

I don't think he is a yardstick, depends on location and school. Family member, government high school, clear around R20k a month, not great, as I said okish.

I haven't no. The best tip I can give anyone in learning a language. Switch off the native language, submerse yourself completely in the new one, and one day the lights come on.

I say this in all honesty. I speak 7 languages pretty damn well. I'd say fluent in few, but still conversational in most.

Nearly 761 views . My god I'm as famous as Clarkson. Hahaha. I'm loving the ideas folks. Thanx !

Go be a tour guide maybe, with your language skills, get paid to tour the world, or take foreign groups around SA. Maybe start a travel agency visiting great pasta places in Italy, translate, teach languages, tutor kids in languages

It's pointless teaching a foreign language in a country where the language cannot be heard everywhere. Example would be teaching Italian in South Africa. You can't hear it all the time, you can't read it everywhere etc. It's more applicable to teach what we have here. Capish?

Not pointless at all. Many people want to learn a little before going on holiday, or work for Italian companies, impress their girlfriend or whatever. There is definitely a demand for it.

Or, teach English to Italian expats in SA, there are plenty.

You should try one of the food importers, they would kill to have you working for them, you have the knowledge and expertise.

That's mafiosi territory. ... I wanted to move away from all that and be normal. 9-5 weekends and public holidays off. I want to get married and have babies. Lol.

I think you're missing my point. If I teach you Italian, how can you practice and learn more.? You would learn better if you were in Rome don't you think?

You can't learn local dialect from an audio book.

OP is looking for a well paid job unrelated to cooking and with no other qualifications and experience.

I'm imagining this
