Ha my mate's diesel Touareg cost slightly more than my Haval H6 HEV and while similar mileage was a whole lot older and out of warranty.
Even as a diesel uses way more fuel and has a lot less features and I suspect if something breaks will cost a whole lot more.
It is a very good option in this class of vehicle though.
Jokes aside, it depends on needs, like us as a young family of four with a dog, our clothes, baby/toddler stuff, my cycling stuff, etc. the Touareg is a great size. The 3.0 V6 TDi in mine while not the best one fitted is fairly reliable, relatively cheap to maintain, has good consumption for hauling a 2.2 tonne vehicle excl' roof boxes and/or trailers. If you can forego the new tech they are a lot of value for money but I suggest staying away from dealers as Touareg labour rates are ridiculously high even for basic services.
