People say in as you grow older you only remember the good times.
I have none that includes my parents, no great bonding times nothing... I do remember the bad, and after hearing about my mom I am trying hard to remember good things and it’s a blank like always.
I feel guilty about this.

How do you remember your childhood and your parents?

I remember from about age 18 up ... and even those are far and between

Good Day, my Sensei!

/bows to sensei.

I will honour your request ASAP, my sensei!

PS. Sensei? Would you like that in point format or paragraph?

Well I only have good memories of when I was younger. My mom raised me and she made sure that I had everything I needed (not wanted :o).

I just remember sunday morning waffels and time spent at the zoo and at our place in Port Shepstone for December hollidays.

Mila if the memories are not there, they are not there. Rather than looking / searching for happy memories rather just remember the valuable lessons your mother tought you :)

look at old photographs ...
Our house burnt down:( No pics

To keep out of the sun?:D Not much there either. :( But thanx.
I see My BF and his mother and they share so much, I'm probably Jealous.:D

The great part about life is that, even if we have no fond memories, we have the time and ability while we are still on earth to make new, wonderful, amazing memories, Mila :)

Start by telling the people close to you that you love them :)

I can remember stuff from age 4-5, I managed to take a few sips of a window cleaning chemical, so its all still clear. My junior school years in Louis Trichardt we awesome, I got chased by hungry sheep.

Learnt how to write letters to girls in grade 2...

so yeah, i can still remember the good and the bad stuff.

I remember lots from my childhood, very vivid memory

Didn't have the best childhood family wise either Mila... :/ Lots of issues that are still present today...

Friendship wise I had an awesome time :D I remember getting pushed on a swing, performing in a play and laughing at this kid who used to swallow money and that all happened in preschool! Oh and I remember having to take part in nap time every day which I hated more than anything... I used to wait til everyone was asleep then make a dash for the playground hehe, I hated sleeping during the day.

I remember having a 'boyfriend' in grade 1 and 2 who used to buy me those sherbert straws every lunch break... It was true love I swear ;) and playing tag everyday. Oh and kissing catches! I remember being at my mate's 8th birthday party the day of the 95 world cup and everyone's parents going mad. Ah I wish I was a kid again!

I vividly recall choking on an old R1 coin (the big one) on my 5th birthday and biting my dad's fingers down to the bone while he tried to get the coin out of my throat. He saved my life that day.

I also vividly recall my dad speeding to the hospital after I drank a bottle of Mercurochrome when I was 5 and how they pumped my stomach. He saved my life that day too.

I also remember how sundays were wrestling days where my boet and I were allowed to wrestle my dad. (We were never allowed to lay a hand on each other though). He always won though...

As for bonding - I still remember when I was 4 and we took a trip to the hospital to fetch my sister when she was adopted & how my bro was allowed to name her. We still have that family photo. good times...

I really hope things go better with you mom, miss Mila.

Nope, normal people remember the bad times.

Only the whacked out kids high on that ADD drug remember the good times. Don't know where you got your information from Mila.

But every memory I have of my childhood (except a handful) are bad ones. Bullied. Called names. Times I got a hiding. Times my parents were fighting. The time my dad had an car accident etc etc etc

Rather than living in the past, how about living here and now and be with your mom and create GOOD memories now

It's what you can change NOW that makes the difference... toe toe... ***off laat jy jou gat roer en iets doen om 'n gelukkige memory te skep...!!

You can then reminisce all you want a few years from now...

Lush I remember stuff like that too. Parent stuff is only bad stuff, I remember good things when the family was there. My parents had awsome parties :)

That is why I think Pit is makin a great effort with is kids.

This is also why I don't get why parents spoil their children on their birthdays with jumping castles and huge elaborate parties with clowns and ****.

Kids won't remember 20 years from now. What they will remember is having a birthday and (perhaps, if your house don't burn down) see the silly photos.

I'd rather save that money and give them a huge 21st birthday party. And something small each year they can use to better themselves or better

Sounds like we grew up in the same house:D My dad was an alchie and my mom just went back for more abuse.

And the sad thing is i was raised in a "upper class" home.

edit:Wait I have a good memory. The day she got fed up and "moered' him back

Good for her. Sch1t for you, but good for her!

I don't have strong memories of doing things or having things or specific incidents. I do have strong memories of atmosphere and feelings and lighting.

I remember both good and bad, in small increments. I have flashes of various things out the blue, a particular smell, or taste often sends me back.
My dad died when i was 11, (34 years ago), and i remember some things, and yet also forget so many others.
Sometimes i feel guilty for not remembering, but then also realise that some of the moments leading up to his passing, were tough, and maybe its for the best that i dont always remember everything.
I can draw you a detailed image of our family home in Norway that i last saw when i was 13, yet cant remember 90% of the people i served in the Navy with at 21, although we worked and lived together for months on end, - go figure.

I am fortunate that I have an excellent long term memory and recall large amounts of my childhood, environment and events. I was born in 1961 so life was easier to fill with memories for the fuure. The fact that we spent a lot of time amusing ourselves and were not bombarded with rubbish on the wireless or newspapers meant that we could remember much more of worth too. I suspect that the vast amount of information in our lives today has made our brain discard so much of the drivel that often we forget the important stuff too and consequently we are missing out on making memories for the future.

I have good and bad memories... my dad passed away when I was 5, which I very vaguely remember. My mom worked and studied very hard to raise me, but those were awesome times.
