Chilli Pepper Growing

Nice thanks, so the reservoir size does matter? The plants are small obviously cos they root bound, but would the strength of nutrients matter in this case? So even though they flowering i should keep it at around that?

What i've been doing is checking the EC when i replace the nutrients, if it dropped 200ppm in that week i raise it by 200, So if i had 800ppm (1.6 EC) at res change and a week later its dropped down to 550, i raise it to about 1000ppm for the next week. But i would prefer just being able to use the same EC every week from veg to fruiting if possible, obviously working my way up slowly from seedling, i just don't know if i my EC is too high even though the EC drops every week.

It is a pain with so many, but i feed them all the same except seedlings. I just wonder if if the container size makes a difference to the EC i should be feeding them..even though they flowering. If i wont get flower drop at 1.8 EC i think im gonna just stick with that and not go beyond. When i mix the nutrients at the recommended amount it comes to about 1.7 EC, not really worried how long they take to ripen or anything, i just want chillies. So whatever EC that will prevent flower drop and nutrient burn

At that size of a plant I am usually at 1.6-1.8 EC. I then ramp up .2 increments every two weeks at a time and see what the plant is telling me. Then take a decision from there to go up or down or stay at the EC when its time to fill up the reservoir. Some varieties love it high others low, I have found no magic EC value to be honest especially when you growing different varieties. So I have an EC for each, bit of a pain as I need to keep a spreadsheet to keep track. Currently I am at 2.2 EC on the ones pictures with PK 13/14 but that another story. I have been to 2.8 before with no ill affects, but see no difference between 2.2 and 2.8 so 2.2 is where I am keeping them for now. Rather less EC than to much.

To give you some view into my EC.

I use tap water that comes out at a stable PH of 8.1 with a stable 0.3 EC. I then use Atami CalMag to get the EC up to 0.5 then use A+B to get to my desired EC in veg. During veg I use a citric acid based PH down and a phosphoric acid based PH down in flower. I am super pedantic to hit a final PH of 5.8 on the button.

Those habanero's need a hit of calmag. I hope you supplementing with calmag. Chilli's in particular need to be supplemented. When I get leaf curl like that. I do a calmag folior spray once a week while I wait for the plant to take it up naturally. I would also back off on the EC there for two weeks to recalibrate what they want. That said they don't look bad for the stage they are at. Some of your others need higher EC but I am sure you see that.

That said, let me call in the professionals. I am not sure how active they are on the forum though.

@Chillihead & @Outcast777 your view?

Edit: I use Plagron nutes for A+B and PK 13/14 and canna for PH down.

I change nutrients every week and start with a PH of 5.9 - 6 but the ph Meter I have isn't the greatest, EC at the moment is 2.1, but I've only been increasing it recently, I see some people only grow 1.2 EC, plus the nutrients I'm using Starke Ayres nutrifeed has less nitrogen I think, but when they were seedlings I was using 3 part nutrients and EC was around 1.2 at full strength. My reapers are barely green using the exact same strength..but only the Habs are bubbly and dark green.

What EC do you use?
I do fertigated feeding, ec ranges from 0.5-1.7 general hydroponics.

Chillies are easy to grow use actual chillies cut in half and bury the entire half it will sprout.

Do this in a pot then move the pot outside if you started inside to climatise the plant then transfer into the ground
Let me file that under "things taken for granted in South Africa". Damn Im jealous.

The proppegator is nice and full.

The cucumbers I am growing for a friend I already transplanted after a week in the propegator.

You can literally build that kit for like 200R.

Nice site.

Busy growing some, they are doing well. But I think maybe I should have waited for warmer weather.
They are quite hardy. I managed to over winter a few super hots. They are getting their first flush on new foliage. Are you able to bring them in at night?

Just gave away a big ziplock bag full of 7 Pots for someone to make Chilli Sauce.
Plant is extremely vigorous so can't stay ahead of ripening fruit always.

Just a heads up. Those little spots on your chillis might be caterpillars inside the fruit.
Happened to me once and I could hear them munching inside the fruit.

Yeah those spots are a pain, not much damage inside. I sprinkled the plants with diatomaceous earth. The birds are also eating some of my chillies.

Best thing for chillies is to use worm castings in the soil

I always find it funny when caterpillars eat chillies.
Must have a cast iron stomach.

Another harvest still have tons of pods ripening, I’ve just been cleaning and freezing as they come off. When the last pods come off I’ll thaw these out and use fresh pods as starter ferment cultures.

I still have mash in my pantry that’s been fermenting for over a year, I plan to let the one go for another year or two.

Can anyone advise the best fertilizer to stop flower drop. My reapers are dropping flowers constantly, they seem to polinate then the next day just fall off. I used fish emulsion until buds started then Switched to nutrifeed, weekly. My first time growing in soil...pots are fairly small. Some of the plants have a couple pods but since then nothing, dropping flowers for 3 weeks. Should I be increasing the strength, or just the wrong fertilizer. My birds eye and peppadews are loaded no flower drop, same soil (freedom farms, same nutrients same watering), even smaller pots. My ghosts are starting to flower now so I'm hoping to fix whatever is causing it on the reapers.
